Ramp

Post by Maxie » Thu Feb 09, 2012 2:50 pm

"My" RT was sick with I picked up my equipment and the nurse mentioned lowering the time on my ramp but of course, not how to do it. I got my CPAP on December 27, 2011 and now that I understand more about ramp, I want to know how necessary it is after initially getting accustomed to it. My question specifically applies to any time after my machine has been on for a while and I need to get up, turn off the machine and a few minutes later return to bed and turn the machine back on. Does it go through the ramp cycle again and is it necessary for it be repeated since I'm probably accustomed to the set pressure? As time goes on I get up less and less but I have been wondering about the ramp.

The ramp is a comfort feature. That means that you can simply quit using it altogether if you want to.

Lots of folks quit using the ramp after a while because they do indeed get used to the pressure.

As for whether the machine starts back at the ramp setting when you turn it off and then turn it back on in the middle of the night, I'll be honest, I don't know right off hand---it's been over a year since I had an S9, but I believe that it does indeed revert back to the ramp setting whenever the machine is turned off and then back on. But you should be able to turn it off from the patient's set up menu.

Maxie, just turn your dial to the ramp green triangle screen, press the button and that enables you to change the ramp time. I'm at the same ramp of 45 minutes as i was almost a month ago when i started. I'll probably change it to eventually but not just yet!
