Nightmares, AHI, leak rate, confusion

Post by snuginarug » Thu Feb 09, 2012 10:51 am

OK, I have three questions...

One: I woke up the other night suffocating and totally flipped out about a terrible nightmare. Looking at SleepyHead the next day, the point where I woke in a panic was at the peak of a rising AHI, which reached 26-- that was when I woke up. So my question is this... do apneas cause nightmares, or was my breathing all out of whack because of the nightmare? Did the apneas cause the nightmare, or did the nightmare cause the apneas?

Two: Is it possible to need a different pressure for a FFM than for a nasal? I have been using an Ultra Mirage nasal for over a year, AHI always below 3. Now I am trying FFMs, and SleepyHead reports really high AHIs with them. The thing I find strange is that the leak data seems totally unconnected to events.

Three: Could some one please tell me how to post screen shots of SleepyHead, so others can see my strange data?

Some people have reported needing more pressure with a full face mask than when they use a nasal interface mask. It may not be common but I have seen the reports to back it up.
I have no idea which came first..the apneas or the nightmare and irregular breathing. I don't know that there is any sure fire way to know unless it happened during a monitored sleep study with EEG leads.

Here's how I post report images using screen shots.
Open the image to full size so it is easily read.
I use Vista snipping tool to create a screen shot and crop the image at the same time.
Prt/scr key will also take a screen shot if using XP. If laptop is used sometimes the Fn key has to be pushed at the same time as the prt/scr key
I think windows 7 Home Premium has the snipping tool, Basic may not.
Once the screen shot is created save it in jpg format.
Upload the image to a host site. I use Photobucket it is free, there are others.
Once the image is uploaded then copy the ENTIRE IMG address. Be sure to include the opening and closing IMG in brackets. Paste that copied address into a post here.
Use the preview button. If you can't see the image try again because if you can't see it we can't.
