Fisher &Paykel Icon Premo

Post by choppy06 » Tue Feb 07, 2012 7:30 pm

I am new here.....just wondering if anyone uses the Fisher & Paykel system and if it has worked well for them. I have been trying to adjust to the machine for 15 days, and seem to struggle more each night. I went back to the clinic tonite, at the urging of my primary care physician. I have not been able to fall asleep because I feel like it is so difficult to exhale against the pressure. My machine is only set on 8. I went back to the clinic today for some help. The person gave me a heated hose and said that would alleviate the feeling of so much resistance on exhalation. I am wondering if I would be able to use one of the machines that adjusts to your exhalation? Does anyone know if I could use C-flex or EPR technology on a machine, even though my pressure is only set at 8? Thanks for your help.

F&P does not do EPR or C-Flex or anything like it. I have an Icon Auto and it has worked well for me. It is set at 9 in plain CPAP mode. I found the mask makes all the difference. My first mask was a ResMed Mirage Micro and I always felt some back pressure unless I controlled my breathing. Once asleep I believe it was fine, it is just that we tend to breath more deeply or rapidly when we are awake. Luckily the Micro irritated my skin and was the wrong size so I exchanged it for a Mirage FX and it is much better. It seems odd since the masks have the same leak rate, but the FX has more, yet smaller holes and the exhale is much more comfortable.

I do have a heated hose but I also live in the great white north in an older house so I figured I needed one to prevent rainout.
