SD Card Question swapping to new machine

Post by rottyjohn » Mon Feb 06, 2012 9:56 pm

Hello All,

I hope this isn't a stupid question...

I am going to switch from a PR SystemOne CPAP CFlex (6 months old) to PR SystemOne AFlex APAP. Both are full data machines can I use the same SD Card from the CPAP in the new machine? Or would it be smarter to use a different card in the new machine. My preference would be to use same card. I want to read the data using SleepyHead.

Appreciate any thoughts,

Thanks,
John

It shouldn't be a problem to use the same card; the file system is identical and I've gotta believe data would be stored the same way between the CPAP and APAP versions. The new machine does not erase the original data, but rather creates a new folder that is identified by that devices serial number. I have had three different PRS1 Autos over the past month and a half (for reasons I won't go into here); the same card used across multiple machines was fine and Sleepyhead is able to read all folders.

My DME told me that it's impossible to take a card from one machine and use it in another machine. Which I'm sure means that it's no problem at all.

Use a new card. SleepyHead can handle the data on multiple cards just as well as if you put it on multiple cards.

It might have a problem if you use both machines in the same day, especially if they have different times on their internal clocks.

archangle...Respironics machines save to different folders on the same card. Each machine will only look for its own serial number...crossing of data from different machines simply won't happen under normal operation. I see nearly no risk.

That said, SD cards are now cheap. Getting a second 4gb card is no more than $5-$6.

Between PRS1s that isn't true.

I didn't make my point clear enough. Using two machines may cause a problem even with different cards when it comes time to import the data into SleepyHead. I had this happen once. I think it may have been different clock settings, but I didn't experiment with it too much.

The cards are too cheap to worry about, and SleepyHead can handle the data being on two different cards. Just use two cards. By the way, you can also copy the data from the card to a directory on your PC with todays date, so you can keep old data safe.

A ResMed S9 will not write data to the card until the old data is erased. So your DME is telling the truth for at least one situation under odd conditions.

Thanks for all the responses... especially a good morning chuckle cowlypso... That's the truth isn't it! Hard to tell if my DME is just an outright liar or a moron?

I supposed the new machine will come with its own SD card anyway? If it doesn't I'll get one. Buying it via cpap.com assume it will be here in a couple of days.

Thanks archangle that is my concern how sleepyhead will react to the 2 machines. They didn't use the same card when they had me use an APAP last time either.

Thanks,
John

If you don't have an SD card, just pick up the smallest you can buy which should be a 2G from a local big box type retailer and cost less than $5. I've got a very old card that my S9 is happy to talk to.

Sleepyhead will not have any problems processing. On the statistics page it will take the data for both machines and list them separately with their own "Machine Information". On the "Daily" screen all data will still appear from both machines.
