chin strap usage & now heading for tmj?
I just discovered your forum because I was looking for info on oral appliances. Started having problems with pain/muscle spasms in my jaw since october, which is affecting everything. Can't keep taking ibuprofen forever. Have been using nasal pillows with a chin strap for at least 2 years-- mask before that but caused "bed"sores on my forehead I had to get it so tight to keep it sealed. Had a referral for an oral maxillofacial dentist. Saw brochures about TAP. Anybody else having jaw problems with either method?
Re: chin strap usage & now heading for tmj?
I had the jaw problems from trying to get my chin strap so tight my mouth wouldn't open but after reading posts on this forum I realized that even with my chin held tightly that my lips could open and air escape. Now I use an elastic chin strap that is not so tight but helps my mouth remember to stay closed. I also learned here that even with the mouth closed that the lips will open and that is the "problem" for me so I use tape. It works find and I think that if I had a problem my partner would know it. My tongue is "in training" to be in the right location!

There are hundred of different types of masks and there are mask liners. I am sure amongst all those you can find something that fits you without pain.
There are simple boil and bite mouth pieces too.

Hi,
I just wanted to comment on your previous mask experience. The masks are designed to float on your face and over-tightening them defeats that design characteristic. Unless your pressures are heroic levels...20 and above, you probably could go back to using a mask...only not so tight.
It took me a month to learn to adjust my mask properly...and to find the correct one. So if you are a chronic mouth breather, maybe you should re-think using a FF mask.
