Mask straps and hair

Post by Maxie » Mon Feb 06, 2012 12:50 pm

I end up with a real mishmash of hair when I put on my chin strap and then the mask straps. I've tried combing my short, all one length hair back before I put on my bed gear. The next morning it's flat as the proverbial flitter and sticking out where it shouldn't be sticking out. How do you solve the hair problem? I have to go to work and don't like to have to spend forever trying to get my hair too look decent.

I use RESMED MIRAGE Activa headgear which has large section that sits at the nap of your neck. I have very long hair. My solution is to divide my hair in half kinda like for ponytails. So I pull half my hair through the openings at each side. When I get up in the morning, a quick brush and I'm good to go. Of course, that has a lot to do with the kind of hair I have. It is very fine and super straight but I have have a lot of it.

Only thing I can think of might be the PapCap chin strap but it is sure going to flatten the hair do though.

I am using the new Swift FX Bella Loops now and thought it might help my hair (wear it really short) but I have found that now it is wilder than with the head straps and I can't find 2 hairs going in the same direction. Might be better if my hair wasn't so short. Always something.......

Yes, it is like I've started a whole new life with all of the new equipment and all that goes with it but it is definitely a good thing!

Check out the Bella Loops thread that was started recently. It looks like it may help the hair situation. Still waiting for mine... now I know why they call it snail mail... even if I did pay extra to get here.

Besides bending the hair every-which-way, the top strap BREAKS my hair!
I wonder if anyone has actually dedicated any attention to PAP-friendly hair styles/products.
Either that, or hair-friendly PAP products.

I do have a suggestion for a way to keep the hair from breaking from the Swift FX headgear. I call it the Swift FX Over the Top. You can certainly rig something like this if you wanted to.

Funny that I find this post now.. Last night I went to put my mask on & the top strap, some how, yanked the crap out of my hair lol. I took the mask off REAL quick & smoothed my hair back down.. I do wear my hair in a braid to my left side.. so it tends to stay in one place. the one night I did have my hair loose, the mask was a real royal pain.. I know I know, that doesnt help you.. but besides containing your hair, I think the other ideas (of the other type of covers) would be your best bet.. I know there is a beanie type cap you can wear.. But I think that would just give you a frizzy bed head in the morning.. not sure though. lol.

I think you have the top strap waaaaaaaaay too tight. I could put all five fingers under mine - it doesn't bother my hair and no leaks.

I have been wearing a soft cotton cap that I found on ebay, made for chemo patients to keep the head warm.
I have fine, straight, chin length hair. I was waking up with hair sticking up and also was finding the top strap on my Swift FX was causing hair breakage on top of my head.

I have a "buzz cut" and have noticed that the "mask strap hair" that used to wash out is now starting to be faintly permanent. I'm going to give one of these a try.

Looks interesting, but despite the description of the item being cotton, the details show it is only 60%.
That's a deal breaker for me.Too bad it's not 100% cotton.
