Third night with success!

Post by Willis » Sun Feb 05, 2012 10:22 am

I only woke up once do to mask leakage but was able to fix the leak and fall back asleep. Three things this forum really helped with. 1. Biotene mouth wash...no dry mouth while sleeping. 2. Old t-shirt mask seal...made several of these and provided a better seal and less bridge of nose pain. 3. Wrapped the hose with three Ace bandages...no more condensation in the hose or mask. I feel much better today and feel like I got a good amount of sleep-rest.

This was only my third night using the machine. Still have some redness, pain and a bump on the bridge of my nose. I put an 1"x1" square of t-shirt material on my nose that seemed to help. Any other ideas to relive this. I will talk to the therapist about that tomorrow.

When my mask leaks its always in the area of pressure blowing out near the inside of my eyes. This happens when the pressure is constant. It seems higher than the 12 it's set at but I haven't figured out the data yet. I took off the mask...reshaped the seal, put the mask back on , fiddled with straps and that seemed to work. The last three nights this seems to happen between 1:30 and 3 am. Is this a typical pattern for some of you?

Anyways, thanks again for all the help. I wouldn't have known how to make any of these adjustments without this group,

Sounds like you're doing well, glad you're using some tips off the forum to relieve some problems.
For that sore on the bridge of your nose try some bacitracin and a bandaid, maybe in addition to your square of t shirt.

We all probably have times of the night when we're more active and leaks pop up.

The Quattro FX is notorious for leaking around the eyes. Should you decide that you want to keep this mask and make it work..you might look at Padacheek anti leak strap. It helps by putting a little extra gentle pressure to hopefully limit the leaks. You can see it here...you might find something to make a similar strap before investing money for a mask that you may not want to be using full time.

A friend of mine fixed up a little panty hose leg strap and attached it to the top portion of her Quattro FX and it totally eliminated her leaks near her eyes. It is positioned higher than the Padacheeks anti leak strap.
Not the greatest picture here but you get the idea.
