mask change problems
Can anyone tell me why just changing from nasal pillows to full face mask (whilst keeping settings the same) could give much higher AHI and treatment pressures?

bouncer: you need to post your equipment in your equipment profile.
Some machines require you to select the type of mask you are using. I know the resmed s9 does. If you are in the nasal mode, you may get false readings using a full face mask.
There are many folks here that use a full face mask and are leak-free. Now that I think about it, I was able to use nasal, full-face and total face masks without leaks. Maybe the brand of full face mask you are using is not for you. There are many different types. Everyone's face is different. I may be able to use a mask leak-free and leak like a sponge when you use it. If you are preferring a full face, you may need to try on a different brand. I went thru 5 or 6 masks before I found the one I love.

How much higher is the AHI with the full face mask vs the nasal pillows?

A lot of people say that higher pressure and AHI on FFM is common. One theory is that the mask pushing on your lower jaw pushes the jaw backwards and tends to make your throat close up. It's sort of the opposite of a dental appliance for apnea.
Some of the folks on binarysleep are adamant about FFM being bad for this reason.
