New here...

Post by mnfe » Sat Feb 04, 2012 12:25 am

I just picked up my gear today, getting ready for my first night. So far I really like the person I worked with at the DME. I ended up with the Respironics because she said likes the navigation better than the S9 Autoset. I was just happy to be getting a data capable machine and didn't care enough if I got the ResMed vs. the Respironics. She actually seemed pleased that I had done research and was interested in my data.

I thought I would be getting the Swift FX or Swift FX for Her based on liking it at my titration study. But when I tried it on in the office, it just didn't seem to fit right. So I tried on a few more and came home with the Mirage FX nasal mask.

Some tips she gave me included wrapping the hose in a couple of ace bandages instead of buying a tube cover from them, it's cheaper and will do the same thing. Come back within the initial 30 days to get another mask. If I come in for a refit, I keep the original and they give me another, so I will have a backup.

Anyway, just wanted to come in and say hi!

Welcome to the forum! Sounds like you got a helpfull DME, there aren't alot of them around! You got a very nice machine and it you should be happy with it. Actually you should be VERY happy with it. Wrapping the hose works fine, you can even use old socks or an old towel to wrap it. The mask is the hardest part to get right. I think everyone should have one full face mask that works for them to use during times of congestion.

welcome!!! If your mask is not comfortable or leaks or both, don't wait 30 days. Most DME's will exchange a mask within 30 days. I went thru 5 or 6 masks before I found the one that is comfortable and doesn't leak. This is normal. Few people get the right mask from the beginning. Try on the mask at the DME and get the DME to hook up a display cpap machine at your setting. See if it leaks at the DME office. If it leaks there, it will leak at home. Heck, I got on the floor with the mask I now have and rolled around. A lady came in and had to step over me. But... it didn't leak and I new it was for me.

I have the Swift FX for Her and really like it. Took about a week for my nose to get 'broke in,' though I use a RespCare Hybrid Universal Full Face Mask as a back up (a hand-me-down setup from my hubby) and like it as well. Works great when I'm stuffy with a cold or allergies.
