Fell asleep accidently without CPAP!

Post by Matty332 » Fri Feb 03, 2012 5:16 pm

Well my I think my CPAP treatment is working because last night I was so tired (after a huge day) - I fell asleep without getting the CPAP on. I can really tell the difference now because I have woken up after 9 hours of OSA effected sleep and feel spaced out, tired and hypnotic. It is taking me ages to snap out of it.

Has anyone ever accidently done this? Are these feelings normal? Have you felt worse for it?

I don't ever want to fall asleep without my mask. When you have sleep apnea for so long, your mind and body are working overtime to compensate and you sorta get used to it.

But after being on the machine for a while, you're breathing the way you're supposed to and therefore your body can relax and and rest and function normally. Thus, when you have a night without it, you pay the price because you can really tell the difference. Now you know what you were up against before. If I fall asleep for 20 minutes without my machine, I fell like crap and it can take hours to feel normal again. Good luck, I'd bet my paycheck this won't ever happen again!
Thinking of quitting CPAP?

No problem, here's the first thing to do when you quit:

Advanced funeral planning. When you give up CPAP, you'll probably need it.

I went without it for 5 days this fall due to a power outage and I felt horrible all day. I was more functional than I was pre-cpap but it was rocky. I also woke up about every hour!!
