Mirage Liberty Hybrid Mask

Post by Maxie » Fri Feb 03, 2012 12:49 pm

My Mirage Liberty Hybrid mask came with a hose between the mask and the hose from my CPAP machine. My RT said he had no idea why the "extra" hose was included but to try using it. The first time I tried it I quickly realized that it was heavy and that the sheer weight of it was helping to pull the mask away from my face so I discontinued it and have never used it. The "extra" hose is listed in the parts list for the mask so someone intended it to be there if you are trying this mask, you might want to not use this extra hose and connect directly to your regular hose. My RT said the Liberty has a terrible track record and this may be part of the cause. He said he would ask the manufacturer's rep about it but I wanted to give a heads up to anyone trying this mask for the first time. I had much better success without the weight of the extra hose.

This is the mask I use. I actually like that the extra hose extends the length since I drape my hose over my headboard. My issue with this mask so far is that the nasal pillows start leaking on me after 5 weeks of use, its always the right side that leaks on me. I tried boiling an older pair I had and will try them out again once the current pair starts leaking on me. I am hopeful this process will start extending the pillow life.

I don't know why it is on there either. Doesn't seem to bother me though. It is probably lighter than my climate hose is. Maybe you're the extra weight of the extra connection.

I hope the pillows don't spring a leak on me after a few weeks. I just got this mask a few nights ago and so far it has been the best one I've used.

I just got one of these masks and I truly hope I can make it work because it is so much less restrictive than my primary mask the Mirage Quattro. Don't get me wrong, the Quattro is a great mask, it's just so large...but then again I've gotten the leaks down to almost nothing on that mask. So back to the Liberty. I also drape my climateline hose over my headboard and have gotten dealing with that down to a science (I've run it through an old cotton sock which I velcroed to the headboards so now the hose makes no noise at all)...it is not a factor in my treatment at all. I removed the extension tube on my first night and had much better luck with the leaks. Also, because I read posts on Lansinoh, I went ahead and got some when I knew my Liberty was coming in the mail. That stuff is magic! I didn't have any issues with leaks at the mouthpiece, but the pillows would start talking to me when I'd change position. What I need now is a strap that adds just a small amount of pressure to the pillows because I noticed that all it took was just a very slight amount of pressure to stop those pillows from leaking at all. I sure wish there was someone out there who sold neoprene straps with latch & hook (velcro) in different lengths. That would be a huge help. I've already demolished a couple of my wife's old bras. So here I am now using my wife's old bras and using lanolin that supposed to be used for nursing mother's sore nipples!!! I shutter to think about what comes next!

I'd like to compare the new short hose for the Sleepweaver with the Liberty's short hose.
Might be good to know. . .

I like my hose to go back up over my head also and maybe the extra connectors are what made it heavier. I don't know if this was a very good solution but when my pillows talked to me I would switch my unit off and back on in a few minutes and it seemed to cure the problem for that night.
