What is OT?

Post by SleepingDVader » Thu Feb 02, 2012 10:05 am

Please pardon my ignorance but what in the world does "OT" indicate. I see this on quite a few posts and it's time to stop wondering what that is. Maybe I'm not the only one wondering. Thanks

Hi - it's a kind of a warning - "Off Topic" - to us letting us know the note's about something other than OSA if we want to skip it... you'll see it on most forums of any kind.

Off topic, not directly related to XPAP or sleep disorders.
I guess we need a glossary.

Off Topic

Meaning that whatever is being discussed likely has no relation to cpap or sleep apnea problems.
Some people prefer to not bother reading OT threads and by saying OT in the topic title it warns those people that whatever is being discussed doesn't relate to normal cpap or sleep apnea issues.

That's great! Thanks very much. And they say you can't teach an old, worn-out, tired, bewildered, used-up, pesky old dog new tricks!!!

While we're on the subject of "Subjects" or Titles, I'm wondering whether anyone else has been frustrated by the large number of new threads lately which have been given Subject Titles which tell us absolutely nothing about what the question or discussion is going to be about!?

It's almost as if some folks are talking in their sleep or having a random stream of consciousness when they type the Subject or Title for starting a new thread!

One needs only to take a quick glance at the start page to see what I mean.

No one has the time to read everything on the board and IMHO it would be helpful and more considerate if people put a moment's thought into composing a Subject title which gave the rest of us at least a tiny clue about the question or subject being discussed.

Stepping down from soapbox …

Sincerely, Nate

I was thinking about putting this Whine in a new thread but I couldn't decide whether to call it "A Complaint about New Thread Titles" or "Stop with the Dumb New Thread Titles!!!"

PS "What is OT?" was an example of a GOOD thread title!

IMO "What is OT?" is not OT. It's On T. It's what the question/thread was about.

Nate

BUT its not SA related.. which brings it back to the OT lol.

I do agree about the thread titles.. I have that issue on other boards I go to as well. When I make a topic, I try to fit as much in as I can, so everyone knows what my post is about..

Btw just for fun.. OT also stands for: http://www.acronymfinder.com/OT.html

lol

OT means increased chance it won't be a snore of a thread...
