Humidifier Error.....Again

Post by SnoozyQ » Tue Feb 15, 2011 7:00 am

I've had the "Humidifier fault. Replace humidifier" message before. I've unplugged, let it rest and plugged in again for it to be just fine. Now it's taking several unplugs/replugs to get the message to go away and it's doing it almost nightly.
Nothing like waking up with a mask and NO air movement! I fill the tub each night, so if it's running out of water, it shouldn't be.

Anyone else have this issue?

My DME warned me of this when I got my S9. Supposedly, Resmed "had a bad batch". I was told that, if it happened, to pull power as a temporary fix, but to call them ASAP so that they could swap the machine out. So far, I haven't had a problem.

It went out again last night and shut off. The bad thing is I didn't even wake up....my husband woke me up to tell me it was off.
So I only logged 4 hours on the machine......

Since it's already paid for by insurance, would I address this with the old DME that issued it or the new DME?

I would start with the new DME especially if they have ResMed products. See what they say.

I agree. Since it's still under warranty with Resmed, it shouldn't matter where you got it.

I had a problem with S9 and humidifier. Not as bad as it shutting the flow off, but it did make the plate in the h5i quit heating in the middle of the night and I woke with a huge "ice cream headache". I happened to have a leased S9 Elite at home, so after a couple of nights experimenting with different components, I narrowed the problem down to the S9 (autoset) itself. I have returned it to cpap.com under warranty (just 1 month old). So far not too impressed with the warranty service through cpap.com. My DME said that when he has a problem with a ResMed they typically get a replacement out to him in 24 hours. Cpap.com says it could be up to 6 weeks.

I have had this happen to me several times.

Resmed said that it is recommended that the 4 things are done

a. machine is in a well ventilated area

b. not near sunlight

c. not near a heat source (keep the power supply cord away from the machine)

d. water must be at room temperature

Replace the humidifier and if it happens again, have the DME replace the whole unit. When the humidifier is replaced, have them replace the tubing as well. They also recommend using the climate control tubing.

hope this helps.

Just had this happen a couple of times. In my case, I had forgotten to fill the water reservoir and awoke from the hot air. I filled it and the fault occurred. Found this in Resmed's documentation. The third one (which I bolded) is my answer. Let it cool before adding water. That fixed it and I did not need to replace the humidifier.
Displays error message: Humidifier fault, replace humidifier:

Device has been left in a hot environment. => Allow to cool before re-use. Disconnect the power cord and then reconnect it to restart the device.

There is a fault in your H5i heated humidifier. => Discontinue using your H5i and contact your clinician/service provider.

Refilling the humidifier with cold water while humidifier is still hot after therapy. => Allow the humidifier to cool before re-filling.

Filling the humidifier with ice cold water on a warm day or with hot water. => Use room temperature water.
