Swift FX question

Post by cortez356 » Sat Nov 27, 2010 4:53 pm

I have looked at all the threads on the Swift Fx mask. Every poster states that the pillows are supposed to be outside your nares, I know this is going to sound dumb but I do not understand. I place the pointed part of the pillow inside the nose and the band rests against the outside of the nostril. When it is in there correctly you can inflate your nostrils by holding the small hose in your mouth and blowing. No leaks. Am I doing this correctly?

I don't quite understand what you're doing and therefore, asking.......

I adjust the headgear so that it is fairly loose and definitely not tight, and then move the pillows outside of my nose as I turn on the machine. When the pillows are inflated, I slide it back down below my nose in place.

The wide part of the "pointed part" rests against the outside of the nostril.

The part that's the actual "pillow" is the cone shaped part on top of a narrower stalk. OK, so we both know what part we are talking about now, right? The bottom of that cone should sit outside your nose, against the nostrils. The tip of the cone penetrates just slightly into your nose. Your nose should NOT be inflating and deflating like a balloon. But the pillows do inflate. Are we on the same page now? Unfortunately, the ResMed video doesn't make this very clear, nor do the illustrations in the patient literature.

Here's my handy, dandy fitting guide. First loosen the headgear. It should not be on your head.
1. Hold the pillows up to your nose--remember the wide part of the cone-shaped pillow sits against your nostril.
2. Turn the machine on. The pillows will inflate and push against your nose.
3. Now pull the headgear over your head.
4. Adjust the headgear just enough to keep the pillows from leaking. The headgear should NOT be tight.
5. If you still have leakage, go UP a size in nasal pillows.
