Forum Time
Forum Time
I noticed that the forum is still showing time in Daylight Savings mode.... not sure who changes this to Standard Time, but it would be nice if the person in charge would do so! Thanks!! My configuration is set for EST, but my time is showing EDT.

Re: Forum Time
you need to change your profile settings periodically - on this forum (as well as many others) they aren't adjusting correctly and I think I have to change mine twice a year on this board to reflect the correct time on the posts
Re: Forum Time
But that is my point.... my setting is set fo STANDARD time, yet the posts reflect DAYLIGHT time.... in the bottom right corner of the forum is shows the forum is set to ET, but it shows it is still set to DST. I assume someone in charge needs to reset it to Standard time for the whole board to show it.

Re: Forum Time
jules speaks sooth: You do need to make the change in your account.
If you go to "User Control Panel -> Board Preferences -> Edit Global Settings" there is a radio button to select whether you are observing DST or not. While it'd be nice to have it automagically set it, I can understand why the developers left it to the users to set it discretely rather than the board. There are a myriad of DST rules the world over and trying to keep up with them along with the capricious whims of legislators to change it based on whatever logic they may or may not use.
Pretty much everything in the IT world actually keep time internally on GMT and display local time by applying the local offset. Once you make that change, the posts will all automagically show the correct times (at least it did for me).

Got it! Didn't see the radio button only the pull down for time zone. Yes, you are right....so many places do not observer DT. Thanks for the help! I joined the forum in July so DT was in effect, and this is my first time change...now I know better!!

Re: Forum Time
Glad that worked, Emilia.
Making it worse than just the places that don't observe DST are the international people here where the changes are at different times than us or, in the case of the Southern hemisphere, going ON to DST when we are coming off.
For amusement, have a look at this page http://www.timeanddate.com/time/dst/2010.html to see the myriad DST observations around the world. I use this page heavily as I work with so many international locations. Plus I'm a "time" freak so it amuses me in that way in and of itself.

I am making progress-NOW I remember that I can't remember

If this isn’t rocket science why are there so many spaceshots?

Yes - I had to write some booking software that had people displaying the time in their chosen location - man what a PITA We decided to only allow standard north american and one european time zones and ignored all the weird exceptions - there really aren't any international standards

Re: Forum Time
Hi All
To keep me in tune with the rest of the Forum, as far as possible, I get the World Times from -
http://24timezones.com/
Then I have set my Forum time to New York time, which is when some you guys start your day, and most of the rest over the next few hours. So I have a general idea when you would be up, and when you would be in bed.
This is not good for my sleep hygiene, as sometimes I get carried away, and I end up making posts when I should be sleeping
cheers

I'm retired. The day I retired I threw my watch in the kitchen drawer and my clock in the night stand drawer and I don't miss either one of them!!!
