TOOT!!

Post by LinkC » Thu Sep 23, 2010 2:53 pm

OK, we all know about aerophagia...the swallowing of air from the elevated pressure. It results in frequent belching just after getting up (and sometimes while still in bed).

But I've noticed that SOME of the air travels on to the OTHER end of the digestive tract, and the first "sit-down" of the day is quite musical! There are also other effects I've found, but I'll see if someone else brings them up...

Is this pretty common? Or just me...

The OSA patient died quietly in his sleep.
Unlike his passengers who died screaming as the car went over the cliff...

My tooting starts about 10 minutes after I hose up and periodically throughout the night. It wakes me up. I belch a lot as soon as I sit up. The rest of the air in my system finds it's way out at the most inopportune moments throughout the day.

I never had this problem before CPAP.

It's just you, Link

Not really. Me too. Just one of those other benefits to CPAP. Somebody ought to write a song!

It is clear by now that you are not alone, LinkC. I never burp. It all passes through. Since we're all friends here, and nothing CPAP related is out of bounds, I have a few observations. First, gas may be socially unpleasant in any form, but I think there is a world of difference between room air that has passed through a human body and noxious gases generated by unhappy digestion. Let's just say that the dog never gets up and leaves the room. Second, if I make an effort to push the air out at one or two convenient times during the day when I'm in the smallest room of my house, I am seldom bothered much the rest of the day. Third, I don't think there is medication likely to help with this. They may stop one from manufacturing gas, but air that's there has got to go somewhere.

I haven't had a problem with tooting on CPAP, but I just about blew the covers off while titrating the AVS. Now I'll be able to get back at my dog.

Fall colours. One of God's gifts. Life is fragile and short, savour every moment no matter what your problems may be. These stunning fall colours from my first outing after surviving a month on life support due to H1N1.

I have a retreat I go to where we are in a barracks like dorm room. One morning about half an hour before they wake us I started "tooting" and "tooting" and "tooting". Thankfully everyone else slept through it. They may put me in the snoring room if they ever do hear me.

I have been a "farter" for a long time, the only difference now is that they don't smell as bad!! (I am practicing jingle bells, and can usually make it through the 2nd chorus before I run out of "air"..... maybe we could all do a Holiday Musical??)
