You know you are having problems when

Post by Stormynights » Sat Aug 21, 2010 8:33 pm

You know you are having mask problems when you start staring at your space bags and notice the hose port. My mind wanders at times but when I start thinking about cutting a hole in the bottom for my head and putting my chin strap around my neck I really get nervous. I really do believe that this would work better than some masks I tried but if the electric went off at night I would of course die. Maybe this is why Resmed didn't make that one.

Well, you're making ME nervous too!

Currently two versions of this device are commercially

available, the CaStar Starmed and the 4-Vent Rüsch. The latter

was used in the case described.

This helmet is a clear plastic hood in transparent latex-free

polyvinyl chloride (PVC) that encloses the head. It is held with

two straps that run diagonally under the axillae hooking onto a

metal ring at the lower end of the helmet (Figure 1). A soft

collar inflates with positive pressure, sealing it against the

neck. CPAP and NIV versions of the helmet, which differ in

their internal volumes, are available in various sizes. A CPAP

generator or ventilator is connected to the inspiratory and

expiratory ports on the hood with normal ventilator tubing.

There are further ports for attachment of an anti-suffocation

valve (in case of air flow failure) and to allow passage of

feeding tubes, drinking straws etc.

Now all he has to do is flail his arms and cry "Danger, Will Robinson! Danger! Danger!".

But I like the SpaceBag idea. Then one could sleep under the bed instead of in it.

But what if you have the inevitable itch? Can you pull it back enough to put a whole hand or something in there?
Use the drinking straw port with a chop stick?
