Success!!!

Post by joeattardi » Thu Jul 29, 2010 1:27 pm

I just got off the phone with my DME who called me back this afternoon. It was the same woman I talked to yesterday. I was afraid of what she might say, but she said she got approval to swap out my machine! A respiratory therapist from the DME is going to be calling me to set up an appointment for me to come in and swap the machine.

I asked for confirmation of what model the new machine would be, and she said "it's what you said yesterday, the S9, the new one". She didn't mention a specific S9 model, but I think I said S9 Elite yesterday - are the Elite and the AutoSet the only two machines in the S9 series? I only ask so that I can make sure they aren't going to push a newer, shinier machine that still just does compliance monitoring.

I couldn't have done it without your help and encouragement, so thanks to you all!

Just make sure before you accept it that it's an Elite or an Autoset.

Although I am not certain, since I don't know much about Resmed machines, I think that an "Escape" is also made in the new S9 series machines . YOU DON"T WANT AN ESCAPE, even if it's an S9.

Be sure it is and Elite or an Autoset. Those are the only 2 models capable of giving you detailed data.

So far, so good. I don't think I'd be popping the corks on the champagne bottles just yet, but you're getting closer.

Make sure it's either the Elite or the Autoset before making a switch. Both are data-capable. It's just that you CAN get by without the Auto, but not without data. I can't find an S9 "Escape" on ResMed's website, so it may not exist.

I agree. I had to make a third trip because after the same call...
"....we have exactly what you want." ....they tried to pass off the
wrong machine.

I would get the auto, as it gives you every option for your therapy.
"If your therapy is improving your health but you're not doing anything
to see or feel those changes, you'll never know what you're capable of."
I said that.

Go, Joe! This looks like one step closer to success to me! I agree with the other posters who say get the auto; most options = most chances for success. Let us know how things go.

Way to go Joe! As the others have pointed out, you're not out of the woods until you have the correct machine hooked to your nose, but you know how to get it done now.

There are currently two S9 models

S9 Elite (CPAP)
S9 Autoset

If she mentioned S9 then you are all set as far as detailed therapy data goes. I doubt if they would try and pull another stunt having told you its an S9, but you never know

Having the Autoset is the top prize. Its the maximum amount of bells and whistles for what they are billing your insurance.

Congrats Joe

A word of Caution make sure that you read any documentation that they (DME) might want you to sign

you dont want no HIDDEN fees, remember they are there to make money ...

Good job, Joe, take a bow! It would be nice if you were surprised with an auto (same insurance code, less profit) so you can do mini-titrations more easily should your situation change down the road. But as was said above, you can do very well on cpap but having data is essential. Good luck and keep us posted.

Good for you. I agree with others here about demanding the AutoSet. A lot can change over the next 5 years and you might need the apap setting. It doesn't cost that much more. If it came to it I would even offer to pay the added expense out of pocket, if I were you.

Good Luck
