What equipment are you using? Do you have a humidifier unit attached to the cpap machine?

I'm very new at this, but the tech told me that setting the humidifier too low could cause dryness that would lead to a sore throat. Mine is set at a "2" (though that probably means different things on different units. I've had no dryness, but the tech also did say that come winter I might need to test a setting of "3" because I have forced air heat in the house.

Often it's a sign of mouth breathing.

If the antibiotics worked, then you had an infection. Cpap use doesn't cause infections. Some people feel better with less humidification, others need more. If I had chronic problems at the highest setting I'd try turning it down for a few days and see what happens. Hope you feel better!

Well, you might still be recovering from a viral or bacterial throat infection. My daughter had a nasty one this summer--we did two throat cultures, but she did not have strept. It seemed to hang on for a long time.

Otherwise, try turning your humidifier down if it's all the way up. Too much humidification could be causing sinus issues that are irritating your throat (like post nasal drip). Go down one notch only each night to see if it helps. Remember to drink plenty of fluids and do whatever is necessary for your sinuses--sinus rinses or at least a little sinus mist before bed might help. Try gargling with warm salt water, too.

When I was getting used to CPAP my throat was often irritated. It's not a problem any more.

Thanks, I'll try that tonight, I really have a lot of problems with allergies and I have to run a dehumidifier all the time in my house, yet the sleep doctor says I need to use the humidifier on the machine. I truly do not understand this,if humidity makes my nose run, throat sore, and sneeze all the time, why do i use it?
Today has been a really bad day for my allergies because it's been raining here. It just seems to me that I am making my allergies worse by using the humidity.
However, I don't know,I am just trying to learn all I can. thanks to all of you!

Be sceptical of all advice - including this one from me

Buy a Hygrometer, it is cheap - to really know the humidity. In spring and summer when my hygrometer show 50-70 and above< i decoupled my H5I humidifier and run the S9 CPAP without it. Save electricity.

When later on the hygrometer goes down, nearing 50%,I will install the humidifier back again.

Too much humidity is bad -clogging yr nose and throat, while too little is bad too - dry nose and throat.

Silent reflux /GERD can also cause a sore throat (usually accompanied by a bad taste in your mouth). In my case, I never noticed how bad it was until -after- I started CPAP, even though the reflux was there the whole time.

well guess what? I also have GERD! diagnosed in 2007 after an endoscopy was done for chest pain. I have never had the usual symptoms of acid reflux, just chest pain. however, i have never been bothered with sore throat , just since i've been on c-pap.

Some people (like me) have great improvement in their GERD with CPAP, others find it worse on CPAP. So you might want to check in with your doctor about that.

I need SOME humidity from the huidifier, but just not too much. My machine has settings from 0 to 5. I leave it at 2. Below 2, I have a dry mouth, sore throat, and my nose gets sore inside. Above 2 and I get a bad headache and stuffy nose. Sheesh! Can't win for losing. But at 2, I'm OK, Nose, mouth, and throat are good and no headaches or excess congestion.

I have had a sore and swollen throat for four months now and I have pollips on my voice box and nobody seems to be able to help me stop the swelling in my throat. I have been on CPAP since 2002 so I don't believe it is the cause of the swelling. I also have GERD but I have that under control. I just wanted you to know that I have empathy for you and I hope you feel better soon.
