My backup power goal is if the power goes out I don't want to know about it. I would test the backup power UPS that I had once a month on a Sunday during the day; usually for four hours. It failed during testing.
Then basically did the backup power setup on the wiki here.
wiki/index.php/Battery_Backup_Setup_for_xPAP
I just picked this up. It allows you to dual source two AC power circuits.

"Supplies redundant AC power to connected equipment. Two AC lines power the unit and if the primary AC power fails, the unit will automatically switch to the alternative power source. "
So, for me that is one side is on house power and the other is:
house power-->Charger-->battery->inverter-->APC switch-->CPAP
house power------------------------------>APC switch
Just thought I'd share it.

**edited to add: I was reading in the APC forums that someone had connected one of the sources to a PMW UPS and the APC switch would not detect that as an OK power source. So, if you do something like this you want to use the pure sine wave power or at least look into this issue.
