Starting Over

Post by IsrvChrist » Tue Jun 15, 2010 10:59 am

Hi, I am not really new to the CPAP community, but just got re-diagnosed, and was placed on a new CPAP (ResMed S8 Escape ii w/ heated humidity). The machine I was on before was a ResMed Sullivan V. I couldn't tolerate this machine so I didn't use it for the 6+ years I had it. After I got my new machine and had trouble with rain out, so I lowered my humidity, and looked at the clinical manual and made my old machine a glorified hose drier. It works great!

As I can tell from my last thread there are a lot of diverse people here. This can be good and bad, but as a few have pointed out it is best to look at the good, and try and not focus on the bad as much.

The reason why that was the first thread I looked at, was for one, it was a very active topic. It had more than 10 pages, far more then any other thread I seen. I have been looking for an active forum to become a part of because I do have questions, and sometimes don't want to wait days to get answers to them. Also with a more active board usually means more people, and more opinions. This too is both good and bad.

I was making my opinion of cpap.com on what I could see of them, a forum run by them, and not by their customer service. I haven't had to deal with online retailers so much because we have good insurance when it come to CPAP supplies.

Some say that this is a community. Part of being a community is being civil with each other. I know there will be arguments and disagreements, but in the end people need to agree to disagree, and not classify a race or a country by that of one or two people. (and I know I did this in my first post and for that I am sorry).

As for those who think I am a dupe account, or have been banned please whoever can or would like please trace my IP address. You will see I am indeed a new person, and have not posted here before. In that comment though it was mentioned that he "trashed cpap.com" and "was banned" so there must be some sort of moderation here even if it is just to protect the cpap.com name.

As to blocking people and such I am not familiar with this type of forum hosting and might need to learn how to block such people.

I want to thank the people that sincerely reached out to me and offered help. Also thank you to those that kinda took my post the way it wasn't meant to be because it showed me that I can be a fault of the things that I accuse others of as well.

I did post that on no sleep, and read that forum while I was lying awake all night. (I am trying to break myself of prescription sleeping pills, and paying for it).

I do need to cross post some of my questions from other forums. (I will repost and not just link) and see what people here have to say.

But for now I am going to get some sleep.

Have a great day and looking forward to getting to know everyone here.

new CPAP (ResMed S8 Escape ii w/ heated humidity).
You have been had by your DME.
Bring the machine back and say you want a fully data capable machine - at least an S8 Elite - The other thing is an old brick which will bring them lots of profit but won't help you control your therapy.

That would have been me. And for that, I apologize. Please forgive me and let's move forward.

In another community where I have a more seasoned and frequent voice, there are no deleting or editing of posts. Thus the beauty of forgiveness and the permanence of words can both be realized.

Welcome.

To answer your questions:
IsrvChrist wrote:Are there any moderators in this forum? There is a thread that has been going on for than a year with personal attacks on people, and attacks on other countries. I notice a TON of adds for cpap.com and kinda take that this is a forum run by then or highly sponsored by them. If this is a indication on how they do busy or things they support I have no interest in doing busy with them. I am a first time poster and new to the CPAP and was looking for a forum for help and support... Guess I haven't found it.
Moderators? Yes, there are a few. However, with the tools available in your profile, you should have everything you need to be able to self-moderate. We have the edit and delete functionality for our own posts and the ability to hide "foes" and get special notification when "friends" post. You have the ability to pick and choose who your friends and foes are.

CPAP.com makes this site available to us free of charge. Of course, they do so, probably, from their margins, and do so at their own discretion. On a personal note, I am not making my initial purchase through CPAP.com but will consider them in the future for supplies, etc. I am a skilled online shopper, but for something about which I know little, I will enjoy the support (I hope) of my local DME provider. I will, however, commend the CPAP.com team publicly to others who may be in the market for their services. On another note, I will be taking advantage of their "product advantage" offers to test drive new equipment when my name comes up in the "lottery." Knowledge is power, after all. And no two CPAP therapy experiences are the same.

CPAP.com is a family owned and operated business (see their ABOUT pages) and, as such, I am impressed with their operation. If I get into the area, as an Industrial Engineering and Operations type, I would be interested in seeing how they run the business. And I'd sign any nondisclosure I needed to.

I don't see that faith is discussed all that often. I'm sure it comes up, but in the few weeks since I arrived here, I've not seen it too much. All I know is that I'm to live my life in such a way that others ask me about the hope I have. And I hope I do that well.

Again. Welcome.

Please don't judge the forum by one thread or poster.
It's a family.
It's a journey.
It's part of the total cpap experience.

But still.

I have issues.

We'll leave that for another time though.
President-pretender, J. Biden, said "the DNC has built the largest voter fraud organization in US history". Too bad they didn’t build the smartest voter fraud organization and got caught.

I haven't noticed. I have been too involved in the admiration of beer.

Hi IservChrist,

I had a difficult time with my first post on this website too. I was sleep deprived, asked the question incorrectly, and got messages back that felt like I was being kicked when I was down.
But like you, I decided to start again (desperate to get help and sleep!), and have found the resources here to be very helpful. Definitely worth the effort.
Bring the machine back and say you want a fully data capable machine
I agree with Black Spinner, having a fully data capable machine has been key to my, and many others' on this site, improvement with CPAP. DME companies get paid the same amount by insurance no matter what kind of machine they give you, so they may think that it's in their best interest to give you a cheaper model. Actually it's not--the more you improve, the more likely you are to stay with CPAP and become a long term patient to their account! If you choose to advocate for a better machine you may benefit from getting a prescription from your sleep doc before you call the DME, stating, "fully data capable CPAP" to back you up--that way the DME company will be more likely to listen to your request. Prescriptions work wonders with DMEs. Many DMEs have a one-month return window, so move quickly if you do want to exchange.

I like your use of your old machine as a hose drier --my S9 is fully data capable, and dries my hose too! Glad you're adjusting to CPAP better this time.

Blessings to you,

Happy Sleeper
