POLL:Chat Room:Should Access Be For Registered Members Only

Post by mars » Wed Dec 15, 2010 4:09 am

Hi All

Let us find out how many are for the Chat Room being restricted to Registered Members only, and how many are against.

The Poll has only 2 choices - and they are -

1. Access to the Chat Room should be for registered members only

and

2. Access to the Chat Room should not be for registered members only

There are many ways to ask this question, some loaded and some not. I have tried to keep the questions as neutral as possible, and the poll as simple as possible.

I figure that other options will complicate the issue, and some of them - such as - I don't know - or - I don't care - have a bias in favour of no change. So the poll is designed for an affirmative decision - one way or the other. For those who are not sure or do not care etc, then not voting would be the right option.

However, all comments will, as usual, be welcome.

cheers

It's sad that the chat room can't run smoothly with people wanting to interact with others dealing with OSA.
Isn't it amazing how an incredibly small number of trolls/morons can ruin it for everyone??
Oh well..... that's life on the internet - most of these idiots are too cowardly to behave this way in person.

Good poll, Mars.

Cheers,
xenablue

It was crazy last night. "Moderator" was hijacking the chat room.

Dean wormer knew how to deal with trouble makers so maybe could put the trouble makers in the chat room on double secret probation.

It won't end the problem, since registered users can be troublemakers, too. But at least they'll have to sign on with their registered handle so we know who they are.

Since the forum owners are on record with their view on this matter (to wit, that unregistered guests shall be allowed in to chat), the poll is both otiose and somewhat lacking in tact. Man proposes, but Johnny Goodman disposes.

And since the problems are being fed in large part by the neuroses of registered members, one can imagine that said forum owners' patience is being tried.

Is there a private 'chat room' separate from this forum?
Am I missing something?

My opinion is, why not have them register then sign in after login. Everyone needs support, but it is not like there is a membership fee here.

From an administrative standpoint, I would love to look at IP address data and determine how many people have multiple logins or who the real abusers of the chat area are. Ah my mind wanders sometimes. I'm open to volunteer work in the php area if it will help those runing the forum.

Nonsense. Johnny Goodman has always been open to what members think, and I am pretty sure he is in favour of free speech. Disparaging him whilst trying to disparage me can hardly be thought helpful.

Given that I was careful not to propose anything, but simply posted a poll..................................................?

More nonsense. Blaming the victims demonstrates a remarkable lack of understanding of what is going on.

And if you thought your posts were a put down of me, you have shot yourself in the foot.

But thanks for making it clear where you stand on this issue.

Why don't some of you die-hard chatters get together and form your own chat room then set yourselves up as moderators and invite in whoever you want. Those that you don't want in the room kick them out.
I don't often side with Admin but Johnny is just trying to protect and build a business so I can understand his point. Johnny should not have to cave.

I regard the chatroom (and PM's, for that matter) as just nice extras... PM's especially. I go to the chat room occasionally, just to relax. I don't use my usual nickname "rested gal" when I'm in the chatroom.

The main place to find help and support has been, and always will be, right here on the cpaptalk message board itself. It's where questions can be asked (in a post) by anyone and answered by anyone. Unregistered guests and registered members alike.

This main message board where people post is the easiest place for newcomers to find. The chatroom is not where most newcomers go to find help, I don't think. For one thing, it's not that obvious "where" the chatroom is! LOL

I don't know of a chat room associated with this forum other than the one you can go to when you click "__ Chatting Live" at upper right, chunky.

You can fill in any nickname you want to use when this window pops up. Leave the "password" box blank, then click Log In.

This is what the chat room looks like. No one was chatting in there at the moment:
