Is it just me, or does the mask seem to stick out more from the demo guy's face?
I was desperate to get my (regular) Quattro to work when I had a bad upper respiratory infection. After watching the fitting video for the new FX it suddenly became clear to me how the air cushion in the Quattro is supposed to work. So I incorporated that "swing" move they recommend for the FX in the regular Quattro fitting--with the machine on. Viola! The cushion filled with air and hugged my nose, but there was NO pressure on the bridge of my nose. The forehead pad is so loose it's not needed, except to hold the straps on.

I think they finally figured it out with the new Quattro FX. And that "sticking out" angle is the key. Too bad I'll have to wait forever and a day for it to get on the Kaiser formulary so I can try it.

I currently use the regular Quattro in an Xsmall. Yet I don't see that the new FX has an Xsmall. When I get a new mask in a couple of months, I'd like to order the FX. Will they produce an Xsmall soon?

THe sizing guide is a plastic piece that comes with the mask for now. The size is a lot different than the regular quattro

We will be making a video review tonight so keep posted. http://www.sleepnation.tv

Vaseline is a petroleum product and will cause the mask to deteriorate quickly. Suggest you find a product without petro products in the ingredient list.

I use Burt's Bees (generic at Walgreen's) lip balm for my lips. Never needed anything to stop mask leaks.

On the video that I will post by tomorrow I will give the measurements so that you don't need the actual plastic piece.

So tune in to http://www.sleepnation.tv for that info.

Howdy,

Just added the following information to the "Important Tips" tab of the product page after talking with ResMed this morning:

ResMed does not have a recommended 1 to 1 size matching between the Mirage Quattro and the Quattro FX. The Mirage Quattro sizes DO NOT match up directly with the Quattro FX sizes. The Quattro FX sizes are a bit smaller than the Mirage Quattro sizes.

To get a more accurate idea of your size, measure from the top of the bridge of your nose down to the place in between your bottom lip and chin. View the images below to see where on the face to measure. Compare your measurement with the size measurements here:

* Small: 3 9/16"
* Medium: 4"
* Large: 4 3/8"

These measurements were taken using the Quattro FX sizing tool, measuring from the center of the placement notches at the top and the bottom of the tool while the tool was set to each size.

Image for measurement placement on the bottom of the nose: http://c0009431.cdn.cloudfiles.rackspac ... cement.jpg

The images are from the ResMed Fitting Video found on ResMed's site: http://www.quattrofx.com/quattrofx/en/fitting.html

This might work for me:
My face is a little too short for the small Quattro and too long for the extra small.
Of course, my mouth is wide (see avatar)
Thank you, Carolyn.

I'm still trying to picture just how to measure this area accurately. It's not like you can use a ruler!

I spoke to my DME this afternoon, they said the FX should be available through them by next week. They will have a therapist come to my house to fit me asap. I am really optomistic about this. I really like the Quattro (regular) but didn't like the forehead piece and the Hybrid didn't work for me. I'm crossing my fingers on this one.

I have high hopes for this mask.

My face has enough asymmetry in the forward direction that the headpiece causes the right edge of the mask to be tighter than the left edge of the mask. I would have to choose between over-tightening the right side or leaks on the left. I've gone to the few FFM that don't have a forehead piece. I ended up with the Mirage Liberty. The problem with that mask is that the nasal pillows aren't quite tall enough. And now that my pressure needs to be higher, its giving me a tough time. The Liberty also has too much of a curve in the mouth piece causing it to be too tight on the sides or too loose in the top and bottom.

Fingers crossed this works out for people.

Thanks for the heads up Emilia.

I checked CPAP.Com and unfortunately they are out of stock on all three sizes.

I try to support CPAP.com when I can but I sometimes deal with Liberty Medical. They have their good points and bad points.

Good points- They fill out all the insurance paperwork and submit it to my Medicare and private ins. co.
They contact my doctor for prescriptions,
I have never had a charge for masks, hoses, chambers, etc., etc.
They have free shipping.
They remind you when it's time to re-order with a postcard.
Bad points= They sometimes make small mistakes on the order, but they immediately send you the right items with a free return shipping label. (so this could be a good point also since I don't have to wait for them to receive my returned item before they send out a new one)
The biggest bad point is they take forever to start selling new items. It took them 3 yrs. after everyone else was selling the S9 to begin selling it.

This brings me to the reason I'm making this post. Does anyone know of another company besides Liberty Medical, which does all the ins. paperwork, has free shipping and where the items are free if you have Medicare and a secondary ins.? (I'm not even sure you need a secondary ins. Everything might be free if you only have Medicare)

I want to get a new Quattro FX mask. Thanks.
