Re: Fractured sleep, Ambien, dial wingin' and other things
Hi Robysue, Clearly you are an expert in many elements addressed in this post, so I am just going to throw this out there in case it hasn't already been mentioned. Rather than medications or equipment related issues, could your problem be related to sleep timing? I have worked with a lot a shift wor...

Re: Equipment trial
As the previous post suggests, your local DMEs would be a good place to start and should have machines handy for rental for around $100 per month. Prior to entering into an agreement with one company or another, you might suggest they allow you try at least two machines for that same rental amount. ...

Re: Help please!
Due to the fact that you have witnessed such obvious symptoms of obstructive sleep apnea, you might consider asking your doctor for an Rx for an Autoset CPAP - suggested initial range 5 to 20 cmH2O. This type of machine auto adjusts pressure as necessary so many general practice physicians don't hav...

Re: I am angry at my masks. (leaks, neck pain, severe agitation)
I would suggest narrowing your APAP pressure spread to numbers that are closer to your 95% pressure. Starting at 4 cm H2O seems a little low. As far masks, I have had clients try literally a dozen before they found one that works well for them. You say you have a Quattro, if it's the FX, you might t...

Re: Any last minute advice?
These are pretty common sense items, but are often overlooked. Be sure to keep your mask and face clean. Route your tubing in a way that accomodates you during changes in sleeping positions. If the tubing pulls your mask you'll end up with leakage. Pay attention to the humidity level in your circuit...

Re: help! cpap pressure stuck at 20cm
Like Pugsy says, you'll probably need to send that unit in for repair or obtain a replacement. You might also try looking for water that has migrated back into your machine. Of course, I am assuming you have a humidifier. If condensation gets into the pressure sensor tube, that would make the machin...

Thanks for sharing that story Dori! When you mention your friend had aged considerably, it reminded me of growth hormone secretion when in deep sleep. Here's a link that may be of interest from the National Sleep Foundation. http://www.sleepfoundation.org/article/how-sleep-works/what-happens-when-yo...

Re: Eliminating Swift FX Nano Nose Leaks
A larger or smaller Nano cushion would be a good idea to try. I have had clients with more pronounced noses use smaller cushions successfully and also the opposite. Also, the manufacturers rep in this area advised adjusting the top strap for positioning and the back strap for leakage issues. Do keep...

Re: Ideas to help CPAP users.
I'll add a plus one to all these suggestions and stress that new users should have a healthy dose of patience with their devices. A large percentage of failures result in simply giving up on the xPAP too soon. (I'm sure there are a lot of ballpark numbers out there on how much time, but I would say ...

Re: Any ideas on why my AHI has suddenly jumped?
With weight being such a critical factor associated to the severity of sleep apnea, I would say a 65 pound weight reduction could certainly impact how much pressure is necessary to keep your airway splinted open. Congratulations by the way on that, good for you! The fact that you have an autoset dev...

Re: Think I have sleep apnea?
Some sleep doctors and labs do not require a referral and many offer services at reduced rates if finances are an issue. Here locally we have a lab that does pro bono work on a cancellation basis. In other words, patients who are only able to afford a few dollars are placed on a waiting list. If a r...
