Sore Spot inside Nose

Post by Scarlet834 » Sun Jan 10, 2010 4:27 pm

This morning a spot inside one nostril is surprisingly tender when touched.

Background: I've been struggling with a runny nose recently, particularly on the side that has the sore, possibly an aftereffect of the cold I had over Christmas, possibly more allergy although this would be a new and different symptom for me (I typically get itchy eyes and post nasal drip down the back of my throat when allergies strike). Also, some issues with the nasal pillows slipping around/leaking the past few days so I just switched to a new one last night. Nothing looks like the result of a bacterial infection.

I have been experimenting with a nasal rinse, which seems to help with mucus clogging my throat at night. I sincerely hope this did not result in the runny nose symptom. I'm trusting not, since the neti pot is recommended to treat a runny nose.

Any of you experience the same, and any of you actually apply medicine of some sort to the sore spot? It's not so much that I want advice on what might have caused the sore spot. There's lots of possibilities in my leading paragraph. Mostly I'd like to know what measures all of you take in response to a sore. Naturally I don't want anything to progress to the point I can't use my mask.

(I had a rather interesting time trying to look up my nose, by the way.)

I have a similar spot, also following a recent cold. A little dab of metholatum works well just before hosing up every night.

Where I was using nasal pillows and getting internal sores, I used neosporin and Ayr saline nasal gel. The latter I used to prevent sores thereafter, too. Not sure what Neosporin would do to your mask, so you may want to use it during the day and use the Ayr at night.

My nose bridge problems have reached a new level: today it was bleeding. So it seems I've exchanged internal sores for external ones.

Thanks all for the advice. As it turns out Neosporin with pain reliever was what I had in the house and what I used yesterday. I'm much better today. I don't have mentholatum and I'll store up some of that the next time I go to the drugstore. I do use Ayr gel at night, and I appreciate the confirmation that Neosporin+mask contact is a bad thing.

SleepingUgly, I do hope your nose bridge problem will subside!
