I Broke the Golden Rule...and Paid for It!
I knew better. I broke the rule! "Change only one thing at a time." I changed two...and my AHI was 4 times worse over the weekend. Yikes! So I decided to re-tweak thing number 1..and that didn't fix it...so now I'm chasing change #2!
Why did I do it?! Heck...I don't know. So I repeat...to myself...and here publicly so it may help someone else...ONLY CHANGE ONE THING AT A TIME!
Geezzzzz.......

And then stay with it for about a week, so you get valid feedback on it. Unless, of course, the results are obviously bad .SleepyT wrote:I knew better. I broke the rule! SleepyT, I think you're being too hard on yourself. Even though you made a small "mistake", take comfort in knowing you are in control of your own CPAP therapy and you know how to fix it.

I appreciate that, Gary. I do tend to beat myself up a bit. My biggest fear right now is that my brain function won't come back to 100%. I used to be better able to organize, run an office..hold appointments in my head, etc. Part of the loss is probably age related...but I hope continued CPAP therapy will restore me to my old self. So when I pull a goofy stunt like I just did...and my AHI goes from 1.4 to 4.3....I feel myself sliding back into the abyss! You're right though....I believe I can stop the slide and restore my AHI...hopefully tonight. No more experimenting for me for a long while!GaryG wrote:SleepyT, I think you're being too hard on yourself. Hope you are well, Gary. Take care.

But you know don't you that rules always apply to everyone else? never to us personally!SleepyT wrote: So when I pull a goofy stunt like I just did...and my AHI goes from 1.4 to 4.3....I feel myself sliding back into the abyss! It may not always have to do with the machine and/or the mask. Did you have alcohol, caffeine, dehydrated, stay up late, ...
I think it's nearly impossible to be 100% consistent.
The most consistent thing I try to do is go to bed and wake up at the same time.

Hi Sleepy T,
So you goofed It coulda been worse . . . if you checked your data, and weren't aware "somethink" was off.

Nope...but excellent points, no doubt. What I did was...I switched to another mask (used my Mirage Nasal Mask instead of my trusty Swift LT for Her mask....AND...used a lesser chinstrap instead of my PapCap chinstrap. When my AHI went up I blamed it on the nasal mask even though I had no leaks. Switched back to my nasal pillows expecting that to fix it(still without the PapCap)...and no leaks..but my AHI stayed high. What?! Gotta believe the superior chinstrap with the PapCap not only helps hold my mouth closed (I still tape my mouth shut though)...but it also pulls my chin forward enough to help keep my airway open. I'm a member of the underdeveloped/wink chin club! Anyway, I will find out tonight if everything goes back to normal once I get my PapCap back on my head!no_more_headaches wrote:It may not always have to do with the machine and/or the mask. Let's keep this in a proper perspective: AhI going from 1.4 to 4.3 is HARDLY sliding into the abyss. It is going from normal to normal. I'd guess this is a routine variation, or extremely minor. Put the pressure back where it was if you feel worse.

SleepyT,
You are being too hard on yourself. Take 10 points for having the courage to dare
You will get it back under control - just don't add anxiety into the mix as a spoiler

Oh, I know...it's not the GREAT BIG abyss...but I was headed in the wrong direction...I think I'll correct it tonight. Let's hope!Autopapdude wrote:Let's keep this in a proper perspective: AhI going from 1.4 to 4.3 is HARDLY sliding into the abyss. It is going from normal to normal. Right. Check that. I did get a bit panicky, you're right. Kindof freaked me out to see apneas...have only had hypoapneas most of the time. It's all good. Lessons learned! Calming down.....dsm wrote:SleepyT,
