Windows 7 Encore Pro/Viewer

Post by DJ_Boxer » Tue Nov 10, 2009 8:08 am

Hi I have a Laptop with Vista Home Premium 64bit and Encore Pro v. 1.8 and I am having trouble installing the software to be able to read my cards. I have followed the instructions on the other threads and cannot install the database under Typical. I have at my last attempt uninstalled all SQL but MySql and downloaded the Microsoft SQL 2005 Express for 64bit but recieved an error message about IIS or something like that(I am not at home so I don't have access to either error). Should I uninstall MySql also and then try doing the typical installation?

I don't have Vista. I don't know if the info in either of these things will help you, but here are a couple of links:

I just downloaded SQLServer2005SP3-KB955706-x64-ENU.exe from the microsoft website and Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Express Edition Service Pack 3 and I am wondering if this would work with Encore Pro and my AMD Laptop? If I use the second one do I have to uninstall the other MS SQL Server 2005 express that I tried?

Do you really have to run MS SQL Server to use the app? that seams like a lot of overhead.

Encore Pro won't run without the SQL database and SQL manager running. I think the SQL data base is a pain but it has to run and have the forms setup in the data base. Encore Viewer does not use the SQL data base and is easier to get to run but I don't think anyone has got it to work on the 64 bit systems.

Is there any way to run it in XP Emulation mode in Win7?

Here are two articles that discuss various ways of upgrading and sideways-grading:

Thanks for the links desert rider. I am also wondering if anyone has installed EncorePro v1.8 or Encore Viewer on Windows 7 either 32bit Home Premium or Professional 64bit and gotten it to install and run? Let me clarify: for Windows 7 Professional 64bit in XP mode can Encore Viewer Install and run like it normally would(i.e. opening up in the standard opening screen without error messages popping up)?

Also: Do I need to have the card inserted into the card reader whenever I start up Encore Pro?

I have always heard that Encore 1.8 wont run with a 64-bit Vista system. It will run on a 32-bit system but it isnt easy,at least it wasnt in my opinion.
I could be wrong about this though and it may actually run on a 64-bit system but back in the early summer noone could get it to run.

I am sorry but I have been somewhat negligent in reporting that something changed on my XP Mode setup on Windows 7 Professional 64 bit. I haven't been able to get it to work with Encoreviewer since and I don't really know what is wrong. It will not read the smartcard. It has something to do with how the smartcard reader drivers are installed but I can't seem to figure it out. I have tried deleting the entire XP Mode files and re downloading it and installing it, then installing EncoreViewer, but it just doensn't work anymore. I will keep playing with it and if I get it working I will report it and how I did it. I really don't understand it, because it worked perfectly for months when I was using the Release Candidate of Windows 7, which is Beta software. It worked on the real version for about a week, then something changed.

Actually I am now just talking about Windows 7: I am going to get Professional and wondering if just installing the 64bit version will help either Viewer 1.0.etc and also Encore Pro 1.8 in XP Mode would work or would I just have to resign myself to installing the 32bit version of Windows 7 Professional and XP Mode.
Deerhound: where did you get the drivers for the card reader: the ones they say you have to use on a 64bit system with Encore Pro 1.8 or the ones with the disk? Also did you go into your BIOS and activate virtualization for your processor? I just found out that not all processors are capable of virtualization. I just looked at the Microsoft website and it makes me think that did open XP Mode before each installation of the program and the card reader and used the right driver x86 or x64?
