High snore index

Post by 1416conrad » Tue Oct 27, 2009 1:16 pm

I have been on CPAP since, January 2000. My machine at that time had no data ability.
I recently upgraded to a full data capable machine, and have just printed out my first reports using Encore Pro.
My pressure is set to 11, the same as it was in 2000.
My AHI average is 3.2, but what surprised me was that my snore index was 142.
I asked my wife if she heard me snoring, and she said she always did.
I think I need to increase the pressure a bit. I know that this can increase my leak rate, which today is good. No large leaks reported with an average leak rate of 30.5, with the mask I use is good, I think.

Welcome aboard! With your 9 yrs experience, I feel like a rookie with only a little over 1!

Looks like your AHI is under control...but I'll bet we can get it lower.

Hi,

I had a similar experience after I got started on CPAP. Once I adjusted to doing CPAP, my snore rate crept back up. I bumped up my pressure by 1 cm, and the snores went away. I get maybe one snore event a week these days. I must have been right on the edge, and just a small amount of pressure did the trick. Some say that any snoring will disturb your sleep, so it may be worth going after a setting that will knock them out.

I also had low AHIs (less than 1.0) at a pressure of 10 cm. when I started out, but high snore indexes. I found that about two more centimeters of pressure and some nasal cleansing before bedtime brought those WAY down. The increase in pressure really didn't lower my AHI any further, but took care of the snoring numbers. Since these machines interpret airflow and sounds, they can also mis-interpret nasal congestion (among other things) as snoring.

Did the higher pressure have any affect on your leak rate?
