1 - probably not due to the fact that there is a LOT of controversy about the H1N1 vaccine. Google it! Granted there are the loons out there calling it the 666vaccine of the new world order conspiracy, but there are some concerns over the additives. Squalene seems to be the additive that is linked to the Gulf War Veteran Syndrome associated with the anthrax vaccine. The preservative of mercury called thimerosal is being allowed into the vaccine although it has been banned in some states like California.

2- no

I won't take the time to read it but I can safely assume it is some more of Mercola's quackery.

Can the folks who answered "NO" to the chronic question provide your rationale why you answered that way? I've seen several explanations from those who answered "YES" (including my own), but none from the "NO" group.

In my mind chronic implies 24/7. I have arthritis, I have it 24/7. It is a chronic condition.

I only stop breathing when I sleep and then only sometimes, so not 24/7 and thus doesn't meet my own personal requirement for "chronic".

Well, think about this. If you get the swine flu and the machines don't work, then if you get the swine flu and stop breathing at midnight, you might find yourself in trouble. I call that a big risk. But if you use the machines and they are successful in treating you, perhaps skipping the shot would be okay.

I can see why there would differing opinions.

Will you take the swine flu vaccine when it is available?

Do you consider sleep apnea alone to be a chronic medical condition?

For the H1N1 strain, the NFID recommended the following patient populations be vaccinated:

•People 6 months to 24 years old
•Pregnant women
•Healthcare personnel
•Adults 25 to 64 years old with chronic medical conditions
•People in close contact with infants younger than 6 months
I will get the shot because I am diabetic and also have sleep apnea.

For your second question, I think it all depends on the individual. For me, I am new to cpap and it is keeping me awake right now. So if I don't get the shot it might make me vulnerable personally. But perhaps one more qualified can give you a more definitive answer.

My Dad forwards stuff like this to me. The problem with guys like this Dr. is that they give the appearance of presenting academic work but don't follow the rules of academic writing. The make assumptive leaps with no evidence to back it up which explains why their writings are not in peer-reviewed journals. They belong to many "associations" that sound fancy but I can't find any evidence of their work. And oddly enough, they've more than ready to sell you their products.

Dr. Blaylock has 0 publications listed in Medline and his license in South Carolina lapsed in 1999.

In my mind there are a lot of "ifs" in there and I try not to "what if" things too much.

I worked in the medical field for many, many years and worked in direct contact with sick people. I don't work with sick people any more. I don't have small children in the household to bring an illness home to me. I don't have any heart problems, no lung problems or any other health problems that would put me in the "high risk" category. I personally prefer not to think of OSA as a disability or high risk factor.

The last time I took a flu shot was probably nearly 20 years ago and I got deathly ill from it. I had some leg paralysis. I might have had the "flu" twice after that and it wasn't any worse than a bad cold. Certainly not nearly as bad as when I took the shot. Every time I ever took a flu shot at work I got sick immediately so I quit taking the darn things.

I feel like I am in pretty good basic health and prefer to "maybe" have to deal with it. I haven't even had a cold in nearly 5 years.

If I get a vaccinatination, I am pretty much guaranteed a bout of viral bronchiatis. (Based on 10 year stretch of faithful flu shots.....memorable illness yearly last 5 of those 10 years ....string broken when flu shot shortage prevented me getting......)

If I am lucky (not likely!!), it would be short, a few weeks......if I am not it would be months, go bacterial, require antibiotics (maybe twice), not to mention what else I might get while my immune in busy with this awakened virus I already have in my system. Oh, yes, I might actually get the flu, swine or otherwise, or something else going around while I am fighting this. And not sleeping well with a snotty nose and a cough with my Swift LT. Better than no therapy, but certainly no good sleep when you are sick..... No..... I'll flip a coin and take my chances on MAYBE getting either flu for a week or even two, even with full fever chills and vomiting....... then than take the shot and guarantee many weeks and possibly months of miserableness....!

I don't think I'll do any "seasonal" stuff ever again....unless mandated. Not sure how one can mandate something that is not plentiful or proven enough.... I have my own place, carry my own pen for signing stuff, cover my mouth appropriately, and wash/alcohol sanitize my hands apporpriately to keep me/others healthy. I go about my business but do my best to keep my germs to myself and stay close to home when I am not feeling well.....

Heps, TB, all those other...I am up on, and I have no problem especially where I can make sure to not overtax my immune at a time of year (winter) it already finds challenging....

Medical science and common sense are both needed......
