Hello. I am a newbie. I have been on APAP for 17 days and just used Control Disinfecant that I purchased thru cpap.com. Has anyone used this solution and found a slight odor in mask and hose parts afterwards?
I cleaned the mask and hose with baby shampoo first as I normally do, and then made up the control solution as directed and soaked the hoses for 10 minutes as directed. I have a Mirage Liberty mask and the instruction booklet says NOT to soak mask parts but I did let them soak for 5 minutes in the control disinfecant.
I thoroughly washed all parts afterwards with hot tap water as directed. All the pieces have a slight odor of the control solution now. Is this normal? Will the odor go away when I use the cpap?

I tried it and noticed an odor as well, however it did fade away over a few days. No lasting problems at all.

Hi,
Welcome to the forum! I use Dawn dish liq just a lil bit to clean mask and hose. Then about once a month I will disinfect with a lil white vinegar. I let ehm sit for about 10 mins but no longer and then rinse really well with clear water. I think everything tends to leave a lil smell behind. You can also try Dr. Bronners Peppermint liquid soap. It smells pretty good when you use it.
Good luck!

Try Dr Bronners peppermint soap. Its nice and mild and leaves a wonderful smell. I found it in a local health food store and got a quart on sale for $14.00 bucks
Re: ? re control solution to disinfect mask & hose
Typically strict disinfection of CPAP masks is only done between uses on different patients, as in a sleep lab.
If you are the only person using the mask, then washing with a mild soap or detergent (find one with a mild or no fragrance, too) and rinsing thoroughy with warm water should be enough. You don't have to worry about picking up strange bugs from someone else.
