Blowfish mouth and chipmunk cheeks

Post by katcw » Sun Jul 05, 2009 3:03 pm

Hey folks,

I've adapted pretty well to my comfort gel nasal mask, but HAD to get rid of the darned chin strap. The last three nights I've been taping my mouth shut, and that works great except I now get awoken by chipmunk cheeks /the blowfish effect! So last night, as I was trying to get back to sleep, I consciously kept my tongue just behind my upper teeth and against my palate -- and those "bubbles" still found their way around the back of my tongue and into my mouth! Plus, whenever I got close to sleeping, my tongue must have relaxed out of that position, and air whooshed in. All that = very disturbed sleep.

Does this mean I need to try a ff mask? Is there some other alternative someone can suggest, since I'm doing so well with the nasal mask?

Oh -- the good news is that my AHI is beginning to come down, from a high of 13.2 down to 11.5 this a.m.!

Thanks all!

You really should try a full face mask. Unless you want to duct tape your tongue too.
They are not all that bad.

I think it best to try to teach yourself to use the nose only mask for a while longer
