CPAP - Autopap?

Post by nazanian » Thu Apr 30, 2009 4:01 am

Hello. I am in Spain and I just found this forum

My mother has gone through a sleep study and been diagnosed of Apnea-Hipopnea. She has been given a C-PAP (rem-star pro), with low pressures such as 5 with a ramp from 4. She is kind of nervous and can not addapt to it. I am wondering if an AUTOPAP would be convenient for her, and if you know any special comercial trend.

Thank you very much

If the machine is the M Series Pro, it's a data-capable machine. If you get the software and card reader, it'll tell you/her how the therapy is working.

Autos (APAPs) can be run in CPAP mode, but when run in a range of pressures can be "difficult" to use. They're not necessarily "automatic" and can take a long time to get up to the needed pressure......which means there will be many events taking place until it does reach the proper pressure.....but then, it usually doesn't STAY there. Also, using an Auto without software is an exercise in frustration in my opinion.

Here are some instructions on how to get some information out of the M Series Pro (in the LCD screen) in the meantime.
In particular, this feature needs to be turned ON.

-Show AHI/Leak Feature = On

Den

Menu for M Series Pro

1. Hold down the <- -> buttons while plugging in the power on the back, wait for 2 beeps, release buttons.
2. Press the + key. <- -> buttons move to next field, -/+ keys decrement/increment
3. Check the following field(s):

-Therapy Mode = CPAP

-CPAP Pressure = NN (4 - 20 cm.)

-C-Flex Setting = (options are off, 1, 2 or 3)

-Ramp Time = (options are 05 to 45 min)

-Ramp Start Pressure = cm (Min. 4cm)

-Mask Alert Feature = On (On/Off)

-Auto Off Feature = Off (On/off)

Press On/Off button to exit.
