Hello, I am currently not very happy with the DME that I use in the Atlanta area.... I have been compliant on CPAP about two years.
My resmed CPAP machine kind of blew up, I plugged it in the wrong way... the plugs are not very definative in the large one and the small one- they both kind of look the same. Well sparks flew , burning smell ensued.... My DME sent me a loaner and then tried to repair mine... They sent it back and it still smelled burning through the mask. I have a resmed..... black box. They are sending me a new one now as it has been just a few months shy of the 2 year warranty. .
I have been recently reading posts and thought it would be good to get an AutoCpap.... my pressure is set at 10 with 35 apneas an hour when not treated. My therapist said United would not pay for a new CPAP - just every 5 years and that my apnea was not bad enough to warrent an AutoCPAP... I also seem to get their voice mail a lot when the live receptionist greets me and put me to their voice mail. Also the invoice stated new item when my reconditioned CPAP was sent back to me.They do not come out ever to service me as some of you refer to... just the initial set up. All of it seems kind of fishy.
I am still tired - one of those 15 -20 percent who do not get relief..... I have been snoring since childhood so now I am 53.... I have noticed fatigue since I was 20.
With all that said, is there anyone knowing of a good DME in Atlanta that takes United. I am going to a new Sleep Doc - Neurologist... Dr. Syed in Snellville... He seems very nice. He perscribed Provigil for me to try,,,, I took 1/4 a tablet 50 mg. and did not like it.
That is about all... I ordered an autocpap on my own dime - the Devillbis? It is in the mail.
Nice to meet all you folks. I will try to learn more so I can intelligently discuss data with you.

Re: DME in Atlanta
LOTL,
Welcome.
I'm guessing your DME is Apria. Look up DME on yellowpages.com for Atlanta, GA. Go down the list, and call any of them that are not national DME's and ask if they accept UHC. Better yet, call your sleep center and ask them to provide you with a list of DME's that will accept UHC. They will likely have that list for you to pick up if you like for free. It may also be on their website.
Get a prescription for the auto of your choice as an original that you can pick up at the sleep doc's office. When you get to the new DME of your choice, get the doctor's office to fax a copy of your prescription to them so you can keep the original. If they have a problem with that, walk. There is likely another DME who will work with you.
UHC is becoming not very well liked in some cities. In Asheville, NC, a whole slew of doctors just stopped accepting UHC because they have become so slow to pay. It's been a nightmare the last few visits to the doctor's office because suddenly they might not accept UHC. I've changed to BCBS. Hopefully, we'll see if that's any better.
Good luck.
Welcome.

Re: DME in Atlanta
ladyofthelake,
I live in Dactur, GA. I had my sleep test done at Emory and have been very pleased with my Sleep Doctor, Dr. Schulman. I was directed to the DME, Arcadia, Suite 300, Smyrna, GA (678-279-3061). I have been generally pleased with Arcadia, except that the tech rep is often over worked and slow to get back to me at times.
My primary insurance is Medicare and my secondary is United Health Care. I have been pleased with both of them. They cover all my cpap supplies.
Hope this helps.
