new cpap

This is my second round in life of trying to use a cpap machine. I gave up after trying the first time about 6 yrs ago. I just got another cpap and I am wondering how long it takes most people to adjust to it before they get that good 8 hrs of sleep.

Being compliant isn't easy.
But it's worth it. I would be very uncomfortable and very worried if I couldn't use cpap. It's been 9 years for me.
There are many helpful people here who will answer your questions and provide solutions if you ask.

I don't believe there is any set time but I do believe the time varies by individual.

It is important to know what is happening with your therapy so you can work towards achieving the good nights sleep. To that end you need a fully data compliant machine so you can read the results and get a handle on how it is going.

Sleepless:

EVERYthing depends on the right mask. I was lucky and found my right fit on the second try... many here have gone through multiple masks before finding the right one. Don't give up, and don't be afraid on insisting that a leaking or painful mask be changed for a different model. Read through the postings here to get some ideas of what masks work best for differing face shapes (large nose/small nose, wide face/narrow, long face/shallow, etc.) or sleeping styles (mostly back, mostly side, aternating). Other tips include some form of hose management, various pillow options if you side sleep, and various deconstruction of popular masks to give more stability. Look up at the top of the computer screen and click on the yellow light bulb (Our Wisdom) to read some threads on these topics.

1. Look for the User Control Panel, just below the Search box, which is, in turn, just below the CPAPTALK.Com logo.

2. Click on the tab just below the black User Control which says, "Profile."

3. Look to the left, and click on the bar which says, "Edit Equipment."

4. Fill in your equipment, and select "Text" as the display method.

That will help people help you.

For me, it took about two weeks -- but I was fortunate to have the top mark advice of this Forum when I started, and so didn't have to make many of the usual mistakes. If I'd relied on my doctors and DME, I'd've been up the proverbial creek with no visible means of propulsion.

In order to fill out the equipment in a Profile, you'd need to register as a member on this message board, sleepless in sacramento. That would give you the "User Control Panel" that Kira mentioned. Registration is free.

It really does help to be registered and have your equipment listed. It's easier for others to help you when they see the name of your machine and mask. But it's ok to continue to post as an unregistered guest. Eithe way, registered or as a guest, welcome to the board!
