Advice on taping and everything else.

Post by Brushy Hollow Bill » Sat Apr 25, 2009 2:28 pm

The chinstrap is getting me almost there as far as keeping my mouth shut under the full face Quattro. I then taped with the painters tape and it worked. My tongue even lined up and and kept air from getting into my mouth. But there is the rub, I am afraid that if I spew chunks or sneeze during the night it will go back into my lungs or blow my ears out.
So I was thinking that if I experiment with the tape and add some reinforced holes it might take care of any of the sneeze/chunks problem while still keeping my tongue in place and keeping my yapper mostly shut. Any thoughts on that?

Also, is anyone using the nose masks with their machine set at 17 and if so how are you keeping it on. I think I am going to spring for one of those if I get some good answers. It must be possible and I think taping is the answer for that problem.

Also, I can't find that special episode of, "Life on Cpap Prairie" that deals with all the aspects of taping. I can find references of a mythical guy who knew all the secrets of taping on google but I just can't find his thread.

Thanks for any help.

I too am thinking about going to a nasal mask but my pressures are 21/17 so I dont know how that will work.

Hey, what kind of pillow did you get? I am debating on getting a new pillow to use, even at motels when I am working out of town.

Yeah. Why tape if you're gonna poke holes in it? Kinda defeats the purpose.

Try this: Put on the painters tape. Really try to open your mouth. I'll bet you can. The tape will keep your mouth from "sagging" open, but you still can open it if you need to. (At least that's MY experience) I also fold over a tab on the end of the tape (1/4-1/2 in) for easy removal in the AM, but also as a safety "ripcord" if needed.

The OSA patient died quietly in his sleep.
Unlike his passengers who died screaming as the car went over the cliff...

Hey dude, Yeah,I snuck back with my tail between my legs. These people really do know their stuff. I bought this pillow http://directhomemedical.com/accessorie ... illow.html
I went back to my old sliver of a pillow because it was bassically not a pillow,(2 inches high) so I use my arms to make my pillow. It seems to work better for me as of right now.
I now have serveral masks and will probably pull the trigger on another one if I get some good answers. I think I blew up one mask tying it down as I suggested. Maybe those guys with engineering degrees know more than me. We will see..

If I get the knew mask I will tell you how it works. Pronto!

Are you getting ready for some Razorpigg football?

well, we have a new quarterback this year. Ryan Mallet, transfer from Michigan. He looks pretty good so far but we'll see. Our defense is so young that it worries me because they were dead last last year in all cetegories. You never know, it could be an interesting year in the SEC.

I will never hear the end of it if Mallet is any good. He is from one of those Northern states that seceded years ago.

I hope we have a rebuilding year.

I wasn't trying to defeat the purpose. I was wanting to take it as far as you can without defeating the purpose. In other words if I could make it lighter and smaller but it worked just as well then I would go for that.
No disrespect to you because you have been there and I have not. What I am saying is this, if the fold over works and the ripcord works then lets make it better. We have the ability..The problem we have is making the science community make us a priority.

I think we all have to become Guinnea pigs..I have no problem with that.

If you have a considerable problem w/"spewing chunks" on a regular basis,
you may have a more serious problem than OSA to think about.

.....just a thought.

Not that at all. I had asthma as a kid before you could take a pill and it went away. I worry about my lungs. I never want to go there again. It was horrible. To me it relates back to knowing the bomb could be dropped at any moment. That was horrible.
I have no idea why you would be laughing at me. I think the way I think. Maybe you need to learn to accept people the way they are?

...wow....I thought you were kidding. I was just playing along.

I could never have known that.
My apologies.
