I'm strictly a science guy, but....

Post by lance » Sat Apr 25, 2009 9:15 am

....something has happened since I introduced myself here on the forum. After struggling and struggling to get to sleep with the mask on, and then a couple of nights using Melatonin to fall asleep, last night I went straight to sleep with the mask on (no Melatonin).........wore it for seven hours without getting up. My AHI was 1.2 (.3 AI, .9 HI)!!! I hadn't been able to get the HI under 10 yet! Hope it wasn't a fluke.

Again, I want to thank you all for your encouragement and this forum in general........maybe these good nights will continue. I did order one of those PadACheek nose bridges to add a little comfort; the nose does get a little sore, but that's my only thing close to a complaint right now! Good morning, world! Woo-hoo!!!

Seems like you Texas guys always end up doing good.

I get a lot of variation. I'll go three or four weeks with good numbers then go two or three nights with bad numbers. No overall rhyme or reason that I've found yet.

To me the averages (means) are the main thing. Factors like when I eat, what I eat, how my day went, whether I went to bed at my normal hour, etc, all seem to have some effect. I am thinking maybe that if I have a lot of REM sleep, my HI goes up, because the times I get up a little early (which cuts into prime REM time) my numbers seem to be better. So I have mixed feelings about it when the numbers are particularly good those mornings.

The main thing is the overall trend, as I understand it. But I'm still learning this stuff myself.

May things continue to go well for you.

President-pretender, J. Biden, said "the DNC has built the largest voter fraud organization in US history". Too bad they didn’t build the smartest voter fraud organization and got caught.

Well, most of 'em, maybe. Surely not this guy:

Uh. Not a science guy.

I have a feeling, though, that even Dubya himself would probably be successful on CPAP, just from associating with all the real Texans, if someone were to take the time to explain to him the basic concept of collecting data and then making use of it.

...so what happened???

Was it magic?
Was it Zen?
Was it hypnosis?
Was it just good 'vibes?
Was it the good witch of the North??
Was it a follow-up call from your DME?
....or was it a paradigm shift in your attitude?

Whatever is was/is, I hope it continues for you.

...just remember, it's all fun and games....'til they release the flying monkeys.

Wow, started what almost became an OT thread there. "We put the full face mask on Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, but after awhile he just got a good night's sleep."

Anyways, as far as sleep aids go, nothing was working (Ibuprofen PM, or about anything with PM in the title), so since my wife uses Melatonin on occasion (and only dreams of me, or so she says), I went with that. During the week, I might go back to a little bit of that, but only if I have trouble Sunday night.

Sorry 'bout that, lance. Had no intention of hijacking your thread. I just find it impossible to resist the urge to take a dig at Duhhhbya when the opportunity presents itself.

Sorry I can't offer any advice re: sleep aids, as I don't use them. But congrats on the success you're enjoying so far.

Hi there, "strictly science guy" (aka. Lance).

Welcome to the forum.

Here's some "science" for you.

Den

A major research institution (MRI) has recently announced the discovery of the heaviest chemical element yet known to science. The new element has been tentatively named Governmentium. Governmentium has 1 neutron, 12 assistant neutrons, 75 deputy neutrons, and 224 assistant deputy neutrons, giving it an atomic mass of 312. These 312 particles are held together by forces called morons, which are surrounded by vast quantities of lepton-like particles called peons. Since governmentium has no electrons, it is inert. However, it can be detected as it impedes every reaction with which it comes into contact. A minute amount of governmentium causes one reaction to take over four days to complete when it would normally take less than a second. Governmentium has a normal half-life of three years; it does not decay, but instead undergoes a reorganization in which a portion of the assistant neutrons and deputy neutrons exchange places. In fact, governmentium's mass will actually increase over time, since each reorganization will cause some morons to become neutrons, forming isodopes.

This characteristic of moron-promotion leads some scientists to speculate that governmentium is formed whenever morons reach a certain quantity in concentration. This hypothetical quantity is referred to as Critical Morass.

Here's an interesting science fact: some patients experience reduced AHI only after they finally adapt to CPAP.

Hope that's you! May your AHI yield many more great outcomes... Good luck!
