squeeking

Post by not new » Thu Apr 23, 2009 4:23 am

whenever I buy a new mask, the pivoting joints pivot smoothly and noiselessly. I wash my equipment every day with dish soap and it doesn't take long before the joints no longer pivot smoothly. They get semi-stuck and now I'm getting a plastic-on-plastic squeeking sound that is loud enough to wake me up when I move from one side to another. I bought food -grade silicone and tried that once, but there was a plastic melting chemical compound that fused the plastic together. I suppose I could use vegetable oil, but somehow, that seems gross. Anyone with this problem or an alternative solution?
thanks,

If the dish soap has amonia or any of the citrus cleaner in it that might be your problem. Those are both pretty harsh chemicals. I was told to use Ivory liquid hand soap on mine.

One thing I have noticed after buying three masks in just a few weeks is when you read the books they all have different things you could use to clean them. In one mask's book it says use product (A) but when you watch the video they supplied it says use product (B).

What about the water you are using, are you using a water softner. We had to use a softner years ago in Wyoming and it left a weird residue on the body.

That is all I have.

What mask? Teflon tape will eliminate the sqeaking on a Quattro.

I use Johnson&Johnson Baby Wash to clean my CPAP stuff. I wipe the mask with the citrus cleaner wipes made for cpap equipment every morning and really only give it a take-it-apart washing about once a week. If I have a cold or something I wash it every morning until the cold passes. Not sure how necessary that is, but it makes me feel better.

Once you get plastic-on-plastic, no lubricant is really going to help you much. You might try a drop of mineral oil, but I suspect even that won't help for long. The teflon tape sounds like it might be a better idea. I guess it depends on what you have to do to get it in there and how long it will stay in place.
