Newbie Intro and Questions

Post by solrwind » Wed Apr 22, 2009 8:48 pm

Hello everyone!

It's the night before I get my new CPAP machine and I am quite nervous. I am so glad that I found this site, it has been a wealth of information for me. This is my first actual post as I have been lurking and reading as much as I could before posting. I have Cigna for my coverage, so I had the pleasure of dealing with APRIA to get my machine. After going back and forth for almost a week, they finally got things sorted out. I'm getting an M Series Pro with C-flex. I think that's a good machine, right? I did some research and narrowed it down to that one or the Resmed S8 model.

Any suggestions for how to adjust to a new mask? I'm pretty sure I'm getting the one with the nasal pillows as that's what I used in my sleep study.

One other question....I think my machine is data capable, but I'm confused as to what I should purchase in order to interpret the data. My goal is to monitor the data so that I can see how I am progressing and also what affects certain things have on my quality of sleep. Should I get the Encore Viewer or the Pro version? Do they come with everthing that I will need to download the data (cables, etc)? Will my machine come with the data card? Is the software Mac compatible?

Sorry for all of the questions!! I'm still using the search function but I have read the Where a Newbie should start topic.

Thanks again!!

Bob

Welcome to the forum!

The pro is a fine machine, it should serve you well.

When you have the exact name of your new mask repost and ask about tweaks for it. There are many masks and each have their own little tricks. One thing that is most all masks...don't over tighten it.

Encore pro is no longer available, but encore viewer will give you all the same info. You will also need the card reader.

Hi Bob,

I'll answer some of your questions.

My machine came with the datacard, but I had ordered the software and card reader with it. The card reader has an integrated USB plug on it. After installing the card drivers and software, you'll have everything you need to download data off the card as long as you have an available USB data port on your computer. I do not believe it is Mac compatible (someone correct me if I'm wrong.).

Also, you may want to use the internet storage and card utility found at http://www.mycpap.org.

You can find EncorePro on eBay, but it won't work on 64-bit VISTA. You can get it to work on 32-bit VISTA; just do a search for that here and there are posts with instructions to do it. It works just fine on Windows XP.

I considered getting the EncorePro just because I want to know everything and like data, but I'm getting good data off the EncoreViewer version and I have 64-bit VISTA.

And please! come here with your questions! I shudder to think about where I would be if I hadn't found this forum BEFORE I bought and started using my xPAP.

I have the same question:

Does anyone know which softwares ARE compatible with MAC's? It's all I have access to....

Thanks for the info! I ended up with a Mirage Swift II headgear. The guy seemed to be in a hurry although he did explain how to clean the machine and how to adjust the headgear. I think I'll learn more here than he would have told me anyway. I'm excited for my first night!! Now to find those directions so that I can read them!!

Not to sound completely stupid, but how do I know how many bits my Vista is? I'm fortunate enough to have both a Mac and a PC, but never really paid much attention.

Thanks!

Bob, I have no idea how to find out. I know enough about computers to be dangerous. I only know mine is 64-bit VISTA because that's what it said on the box the software came in!

Psychomamma, you might start another topic and ask this specific question regarding MAC compatibility. People that would know the answer might not find the question in this thread.

ResScan will only work on a Windows platform. I have Fusion and XP-Pro running on my mac. I only use XP for ResScan.

I've got whatever the latest Vista is on my laptop and I'm running Rescan 3.7 just fine. No issues loading it or running it so far.
