new cpap pillow and questions?

Post by reefdreamer » Tue Apr 21, 2009 6:45 pm

I was wondering if anyone has tried this pillow yet? I know it is pricey but looks awsome. I have tried the contour multi-mask pillow and the papillow without luck. I currently have a modified tempurpedic swedish neck pillow but it is rather old and the foam is losing its memory...kind of like myself. Also has anyone ordered from this company. I usually use cpap.com but they don't have this pillow

Reefdreamer....did you take a good look at the 2nd pic?? What a good idea - I like it.... The pillow has bands through which you can slide the hose.
Well, I'm right at this moment busy making my own MEMORY FOAM CONTOUR PILLOW! actually waiting for the pillow and when I get it will certainly try this idea on my pillow cover and will let you know if it works.
I traced the pattern of the pillow from a pillow in the shop (very expensive pillow) made a template and asked a foam company to cut me one from their memory foam. They charge me half the price of the pillow in the shop. Going to make the cover myself and will see if the bands for the hose will work well. Make sure a get a good quality (5lb) memory foam pillow.
Oh, you know, that's why I said in kteague's post - I'm addicted to all the advice I get on CPAPTALK! ! !

Don't know about the tube being fastened to the pillow. I put my head gear on prior to getting in bed.

I bought this pillow from Allegro Medical Supply for $87.95 with free shipping. I left it outside to air for a couple of days as it had a rather strong odor when it arrived. That took care of the odor. It is quite small, and only 4 inches high. Was shorter and harder texture than what I was used to, so had another pillow on top. Half way through the night, I ditched it and went back to my latex foam pillow with the polyester fill on top. It is expensive, so will no doubt try it again. Did not bother with the straps for the hose as I wear my Swift LT with the hose going up, hanging from the bed post. Just like getting used to a mask and machine, I suppose it would be mind over matter and time to get used to the pillow. it is well made and heavy for it's size. I have been doing cpap for less than a month, so have not slept through a night anyway. I tried to do a lot of research before spending the big bucks. The other pillows you mentioned trying seemed too hard to me, so have not tried those. This one has a bit of give, but is still pretty dense. Good luck if you decide to go for it. --- JS

It seems like securing the hose to the pillow would be a real problem if you try to roll over.

Unfortunately today is a public holiday due to our National Elections. BUT I hope to receive the pillow by tomorrow afternoon then I can start with the cover - Oh, yes I tried the idea of the loops on a pillow through which your hose can slide - No, I don't like it. Best as I got it now. I've got a wicker & cane headboard and can easily fasten the hose with velcro. No harm in trying, hey - hoseheads do this all the time ! ! ! and since I've got my ENERGY back (now 10months on cpap) I can work all day (make pillows (KneePillows, ContourPillows, CoccyxCushions and LumbarCushions - sell them and even make a few Rand !) The foam company cuts the foam and I make the covers. (Not too hard work - I've got time, so it's not stressful)
Yes, I'll let you (cpaptalk.com) know if my contour pillow is a success or not. Must go vote now!!! Bye for now.

And it wouldn't allow for using a pillow case.

yeah, I would not be able to use those holders for the tubing...I roll around too much and would go crazy with that. Think I will keep with the modified memory foam I have and just hack it out.

I agree, Jen--This pillow is even more expensive than the PaPillow I have, and offers nothing that makes sense for the extra expense, IMHO. Those hose holders seem to me to be really problematic and likely to cause your mask to yank off when you move around during the night.

I do like my PaPillow a lot, but it is very firm, and not for everybody. I equally like my $12 boxed contour memory foam pillow which is a regular item at BigLots. Great quality and have not needed to slice & dice this pillow at all for side sleeping with my Swift LT. YMMV of course.
