How smart are APAP's?
How smart are APAP's?
Question: Are APAP's (in my case Resmed S8 Auto II) smart enough to string together your data from several days in a row and adjust the algorythm to what you need? Or is it simply an adjustment every 5 breaths?
I ask because my AHI's are going down daily since I bought the S8 two weeks ago. And other than having a new machine, I'm not doing anything differently.
Thanks friends.

I believe it may be more a matter of us adapting to the machines than it is a matter of the machines adapting to us.spookydoo wrote:Question: Are APAP's (in my case Resmed S8 Auto II) smart enough to string together your data from several days in a row and adjust the algorythm to what you need? Which sounds like it could be a premise for a really good science-fiction movie, now that I think about it!
I think my machine is smarter than my watch, but dumber than my cell phone. Just my opinion.

Re: How smart are APAP's?
I'm sure there are people with right answer. I would say that the machine uses the last 5 breaths. Your body is smart enough to string together the therapy it is getting every night and is starting to adjust to your therapy. That is why people say if you make changes, to make one change at a time and give it a week to see how things are going.
Re: How smart are APAP's?
I think there's a lot to what Jeff said about us adapting to our machines.....however I 've also noticed the trend over the last few weeks or so
for some unknown reason my ahi has gone down.
Could it have anything to do with the onset of Spring ?

Re: How smart are APAP's?
My AHI went down over the weeks and months after I started therapy (four years ago) and I was using a straight-pressure CPAP. I KNOW that machine wasn't "adjusting".......it was ME.spookydoo wrote:Question: Are APAP's (in my case Resmed S8 Auto II) smart enough to string together your data from several days in a row and adjust the algorythm to what you need? Re: How smart are APAP's?
Well the results are in folks. Looks like the machine is almost dumber than dirt and once again the body wins. Looks like my body has been adapting. And that is good. Thanks everyone for your input on this.
Re: How smart are APAP's?
It's funny, because last night my ResMed Autoset II didn't bat an eye at seven apneas (2-cluster, then 1 later, then 3-cluster later). Those must have been the "snap shut" kind, as opposed to flow limitation/snore > apnea, otherwise it would have tried to raise the pressure, right?

Re: How smart are APAP's?
Answering this:
Hey, Kenny......
What was the pressure when the apneas were recorded?
If they occurred above the pressure of 10, then the A10 algorithm was working. (saving you from Centrals)

Re: How smart are APAP's?
My minimum pressure is 12.8 (I rounded to 13 on my profile), so that makes sense. I just wished that didn't happen since I can really feel the difference today. Maybe it's time to up the minimum to a true 13?Wulfman wrote:Hey, Kenny......
