My first sneeze with my mask. KA-BLOOEY!

Post by tattooyu » Sun Apr 19, 2009 8:45 pm

So, last night I think I had an allergy attack in my sleep. I woke up with no air going in or out of my sinuses. Needless to say, after I turned off the machine and blew my nose about 100 times, I went back to sleep.

Then, I woke up with urge. No, not to pee or for sex, but to sneeze! By the time I realized what was happening it was too late. I sneezed and blew the mask right off my face!

Needless to say, I spent the next 20 minutes waiting for my *sinuses to clear and clearing all the--let's just call it "residue"--out of the nasal pillows.

*Apparently, humming greatly increases Nitrous Oxide in the sinuses allowing them to clear much faster. It really works!

You have no shame!!! I love your transparency - and the new avatar. You're a hoot!

Humming to clear the sinuses - now that's news to me. Never too old to learn.

Kathy

Your new avatar is fun! And thanks for the laugh!

I have a deep fear of sneezing with my mask. I have allergies; I know it will happen at some point in the future.

I use the CPAP Pro mask with the mouthpiece. I am a small woman, but I inherited the "extremely loud, extremely violent, full-body sneeze" gene from my dad. I have visions of my mask flying across the room, or worse, whacking my poor husband upside the head. My other fear is that it won't come out of my mouth with a sneeze and that I will end up blowing my eyeballs or brains out.

Ah, the terrors we CPAPers face. Luckily we're a tough bunch. Loony, but tough.

Lisa

A fan club? Yes! I never made it as a rock star--and believe me, I tried--so it's nice to have groupies somewhere!

I think my eyes did bulge when I sneeze! That reminds me of the Carol Burnett skit where Tim Conway was talking about the Siamese elephants joined at the trunk.

Had the same problem a week ago -- but I realized in time enough to turn the machine off, and get the quick release undone on my FFM. Even so, I was too late. The sneeze went full force into the mask. Luckily, it was a "dry" sneeze.

My wife woke up and said "you okay?" and then fell asleep again before I could say "yes."

I was dreading that first sneeze too. It wasn't so bad.

Guy

i sneezed into my mask early hours of the morning once, I felt the urge and was trying to unclip the mask quick enough but failed! i think i almost swallowed my tonsils! then in the morning i found i had a blood shot eye! don''t know if it was the mask explosivly landing back on my face or if it was just the extra pressure in an enclosed space but it seems i popped a small blood vessel in my eye! after one collegue just about killed herself laughing when i told her why my eye was bloodshot, i chose not to admit to anyway else what had caused it! the one thing to be thankful of was that it was a dry sneeze at least

Kebsa, your story made me laugh. That's hilarious. Mine was definitely NOT a dry sneeze... yuck!

Kenny's mention of humming to help clear sinuses gobsmacked me... I had never heard of this before, but some research proves his point nicely!
