Too much humidity in room seemed to affect cpap use

Post by Catatrina » Sun Apr 19, 2009 9:47 am

After a week away from cpap, i started back on again last Wednesday evening and had been doing fairly good, just minor problems with overabundance of air sometimes but felt refreshed. Last night i note there was a lot more humidity in the air both outdoors and inside and i had the window open which could have an affect on my mask [Forma full face mask Fisher & Paykal] perhaps i should have turned off the humidifier? I noted more leaks than usual , my face actually was extremely moist [though i did thorough cleaning of mask and my face my usual daily routine and then i also use witch hazel to after cleansing my face which usually works and i have not had problems with leaks] so i was wondering is it best not to use humidifier unit when you have that problem? I actually had to quit using by 2:00 am because i felt saturated literally, i remembered to eat a banana, i read a bit and actually i was able to go back to sleep with no problem. I didn't awake gasping air or choking or anything like that that i recalled prior to my initial diagnosis of sleep apnea in July 2008. curious if anyone else has had humidity issues, other than that i am doing well i feel more relaxed and going with the flow and of course sticking with my cpap therapy

I use a little bit of heated humidity in the winter months when the inside air is dry and cooler. Most of the year I use passover mode. I'm up here in Ontario (Southwestern Ontario though) and am into passover humidity now - have been for a couple of weeks. That's what works best for me.

Being a fellow Illinoisan, I understand the humidity issue. We had it here, too. I usually quit using the humidifier from the time I start opening the windows until the air starts getting drier in th fall. Otherwise, when I get up in the mornings it feels like I have water up my nose from swimming all night. The issue isn't rainout, it's just too much humidity. I've tried turning the dial down to the lowest setting, but it still comes out the same.

Everyone is different in what humidifer setting works well for them (or no humidifier at all). Sometimes, after it's time to use the air conditioner and leave it on through the rest of the summer, the air will be dry enough I dig the humidifier out and start using it again on a low setting.

During the winter, however, I use it full time and the high setting with a snugglehose cover to prevent rainout.

I don't think y'all understand humidity until you have grown up in Houston.

But in any case, you can always use your HH in passover mode (ie. turn the heat way down or off).
President-pretender, J. Biden, said "the DNC has built the largest voter fraud organization in US history". Too bad they didn’t build the smartest voter fraud organization and got caught.
