I don't know for a fact, but I'd be willing to bet a few bucks that the software is the only difference.

My son has an autoscore 7 which sells in the US as an Elite and he was told that he could upgrade the software to an Autoset for about US$75. It seemed like a bargain to me.

However someone on this forum said that the software upgrade for series 7 wasn't very satisfactory.

I've recently bought an autoscore S8 (US readers pronounce that as Elite II S8) and the supplier didn't say anything about upgrading the software but then she said little about anything - one of the dumbest persons I've encountered!
Machine: Resmed Platinum II Autoscore (probably equivalent to Elite II)
Humidifier: H4i
Mask: Activa LT mask

I have an Autoset II. When I bought it I was considering buying a the non auto version because the supplier assured me that the upgrade was just a software update.

Ultimately I chose to go straight to the auto, but it was made pretty clear that software was the only difference.

I use a Elite S8 II and I don't know that an Auto is needed my DME never said anything and I have never seen any advertisement for the upgrade of a S8 model you would think that would be a good selling point. I have seen post on line about upgrades to S7 models. It would be great if ResMed would answere the question. Is there a forum where the manufacture will respond to the customer base?

Since the "7" series systems, Resmed has basically used two common physical packages for its flow generators - CPAP, APAP, VPAP.... whatever. That's sensible production engineering practice.

Just because they look the same externally says nothing much at all about what is "inside the box".

Cheers,

Bill

Bill let me ask the question do you if the Elite S8 II could be upgraded to include Auto function through a software upgrade?

You need to ask Resmed for a definitive answer, but as far as I am aware, the answer is no, it can't.

Cheers,

Bill

When this could be done with the S7 Elite to Spirit (cpap -> auto) the cost was on the high side & originally Resmed said take it to a DME for the upgrade.

IMHO it was not really worth the effort. I am not surprised that the option has been dropped. The way they package them at the moment makes for more sense in terms of warranty & support (from a manufacturers POV).
