My New Intellipap Auto has arrived!

Post by yardbird » Tue Apr 14, 2009 2:49 pm

This thing is quiet!

AND.... this is the best of the geeky parts .... the software installed without a hitch.... into a WindowsXP virtual machine running on linux.

So I can just read all my information here instead of on my wife's laptop or *gasp!* having to shut down and reboot into windows.

Anyways... got the Intellipap auto, heated humidifier and Smartlink.

And besides being quiet.... it's also small. It looks like I can peek at my data right on the screen without having to pull the card. No graphs, obviously, but still kind of nice for a quick look. Can't wait to go to bed... hehehe...

Sorry to digress, but what is a "Windows XP Virtual Machine." I'll sure bet 6ptstar would like to know.

Encore Pro users await your reply with baited breath. Here in the Northwest we favor slugs for our bait.

LOL,
B.

I currently have a stash of Nasal Aire II cannulas in Small or Extra Small. Please PM me if you would like them. I'm interested in bartering for something strange and wonderful that I don't currently own. Or a Large size NAII cannula. :)

Back in August of 2005 I decided that I had just plain had enough and refused to give Microsoft the large sums of money they wanted to upgrade this or upgrade that. So I quit. I don't use Windows on my computer. I use Linux (I like Ubuntu Linux). Linux is free. I have to admit, though, that MANY things out there are just Windows-only... so occasionally it just becomes necessary to have access to a windows machine. On linux I can run a program called VirtualBox which allows me to run windows XP in a window (where.... it belongs!). As far as linux is concerned, windows is just another piece of software at that point. So... while linux is running and I'm being productive using Open Office (instead of Microsoft Office).... and Open Office is free.... or any of my other (free) software, I can start VirtualBox and run a Windows XP virtual machine. It's called a virtual machine because it's not really running Windows XP directly on my hardware. It's running it in an environment created by VirtualBox to FOOL Windows XP into thinking it's actually running on my hardware.

I did the same thing with Encore Pro. It runs quite well in a virtual Windows XP machine.

What I find intriguing about the IntelliPap Smartlink hardware, it that it stores the data on an SD card rather than the smart card that the Remstar Auto uses. And on that SD card there are what appears to be readable files. Readable in linux. I want to wait until I get some data on that card before I look at it too much more. If teh files are human readable, then I may be able to write a program in linux to give the the graphs and stuff and then I wouldn't need Windows Xp to read my card.

Oh boy... Now I'm intrigued. See the thread I just posted.

Okay, I may need to pursue this. The downside is I need the disks. All my machines are second hand from Mom, and getting disks from Mom is... uh... well.... To say her office is messy is being kind.

THANKS!!!!!
B.
