Itching from Neoprene?

Post by Juliebove » Tue Apr 14, 2009 12:31 am

I seem to have hives on my scalp that line up exactly where the straps are that hold on my mask. Very annoying. Could the Neoprene be causing this?

Google had many references to hives caused by Neoprene, even a one or two minute glance at some of the articles show that the hives were in exactly the same places as the Neoprene contact. Try Google on Neoprene and Hives to confirm this.

I'm sorry I can't provide any suggestions to overcome the problem.
Machine: Resmed Platinum II Autoscore (probably equivalent to Elite II)

You might want to go to padacheek.com and see if Karen can make you covers for your headgear. If you don't see what you need on the web site just e-mail her. She does custom orders, and will do all she can to help.

I wouldn't know a Hive from an Acne. But Neoprene makes my face break out in SOMETHING.

Depending on what you have that's neoprene, you can either:

A) Get http://www.padacheek.com to make you a strap cover for your headgear, or

B) Replace the neoprene chinstrap with a non-neoprene model, such as PAP CAP by http://www.pur-sleep.com, or the new Ruby Adjustable Chinstrap from https://www.cpap.com

The PAP CAP can replace both chinstrap and headgear. Depending on the mask, you can add Velcro One Wrap to the Ruby Adjustable Chinstrap, and use that as headgear. I do this with my Nasal Aire II.

Cheers,
B.

I currently have a stash of Nasal Aire II cannulas in Small or Extra Small. Please PM me if you would like them. I'm interested in bartering for something strange and wonderful that I don't currently own. Or a Large size NAII cannula. :)

Thanks! But it looks like the pads go over the face and not the back of the head and that is where the problem is. Oddly, I don't seem to get hives in my face.

Pada will make pads for any part of your mask that you'd like.

I've got mine almost completely covered (and padded). Wouldn't sleep without them!

Send an email to the address listed on the website and describe your problem. Karen is very good about making custom pads. All her pads started as someone's custom request.

Cheers,
B.
