Dentures Prevent Leaks??

Post by Sleepy Boy » Mon Apr 13, 2009 12:00 pm

I've been using a Quattro mask for a couple months. I've noticed that if I don't wear my dentures to bed, the mask will leak a little around the bottom. I'm getting close to my time for a new mask. I like the Quattro, but don't like wearing the dentures to bed. Thinking about the UMFF mask this time. Anyone else experienced this problem? Or used the UMFF mask without the dentures? Thanks, Larry...

My first mask during a trial rental was a Quattro. The saleswoman (I refuse to call her an RT) asked if I removed my dentures at night because the Quattro might give problems if I did. As it happened, I do not remove my dentures so no problem on that score but the mask was such a poor fit about the eyes that I swapped it for an Activa after one week.
Machine: Resmed Platinum II Autoscore (probably equivalent to Elite II)
Humidifier: H4i
Mask: Activa LT mask

Hubby had same problem with leaks with both the Q and UM until we learned here that wearing his dentures to sleep might help. It did although he had to change his routine and now removes them for awhile in the morning as per Dentist.

Thanks Capers: I was just looking at a comparison between the Quattro & the Ultra Mirage. I went and tightened the straps a little more on my mask, and will try it tonight. Everyone says not to overtighten the Quattro-but I don't know how else to stop the leaks, and how tight is too tight? Anyway, guess I wouldn't be any better off with the UM.

Thanks Dori: Ya, thats what I've been doing, but don't really like wearing them to bed. I was thinking about the UMFF, but sounds like the same problem. Thanks, Larry..

Sleepy, once we got a new cushion for the UM and SleePapPillow, we got a good seal and the leaks under control, then as a test he removed his dentures one night and the leaks returned until he put his dentures in again. He had the same denture problem with the Q as well as sore nose bridge and never really got a good seal.
