How to Remove EncorePro?
How to Remove EncorePro?
Can sometone tell me how to remove EncorePro MSSQL Server from my startup tray? I have gone into Add/Remove Programs and taken out EncoreViewer and the EV Drivers...don't see anything else immediately related to the Encore programs there, but it is still running in the tray.

If it's in the "Programs\Startup", you could right-click on it and drag it out to the Desktop and "move" it there. From the very beginning, I've always pulled those programs (and every other one) out of the Startup group so I can start them when I want them to run. I have separate icons on my desktop for the SQL Server, Service Manager, Infineer Reader Utility and Encore Pro programs......and that's the order I start them up. I shut them down in reverse order and stop the Service Manager before doing an Exit on that program. Then, I reboot my computer so I know the SQL Server isn't running

Re: How to Remove EncorePro?
MSSQL is actually part of Windows. It can be installed or uninstalled. If you have other programs that are using MSSQL, you may not want to uninstall it. Instead, you could just stop it from running and starting up automatically.plr66 wrote:Can sometone tell me how to remove EncorePro MSSQL Server from my startup tray? Here's what I would:
A. Double click on the icon in the systray. This will bring up the 'SQL Service Manager'.
B. Uncheck 'Auto-start service when OS starts.
C. Click 'Stop'. This will stop the service and stop it from starting up automatically when you reboot.
D. Close the SQL Service Manager.
E. Right click the item on the systray and click 'Exit'.
F. Check your startup menu from the Windows start menu. If you see the SQL Service Manager icon there, you could delete it or put it in another part of the menu (not the startup menu) so you can access it at your discretion for other programs that might be using it.
This way, your data is available later if you want to access it manually or view it with James Skinner's Encore Pro Analyzer some time in the future. Just turn MSSQL on again, and turn on the EPA, and you're ready to compare data from your old machine with your new machine.

Re: How to Remove EncorePro?
I do have XP, Den, and am unable to right-click-and-drag anything in my tray out to the Desktop. I just get a popup menu. Clicking "Exit" on this menu of course is just a temporary removal of the icon from the tray. I went to my Start button and cannot locate this gizmo there either.Wulfman wrote: Is this XP?

Additionally, in the Control Panel/Administrative Tools/Services I have all of the "services" that begin with "MSSQL" and "SQL" set to "Manual". That way they don't start up when the computer is started......only when I want them to.

Re: How to Remove EncorePro?
Okay, Den, I just figured out that your first post meant to R-click on the Start/Programs/Startup icon to move it to Desktop. I confused that and thought you meant to move it from the systray. Thanks. I'm a little leary of doing this, however, since I will undoubtedly forget what the heck the thing is on my Desktop in another 6 months, and delete it.
Thanks also to DD--I went ahead with the first part of your instructions, and sure nuf had initially missed that little box to check in the SQL service manager. I rebooted to be sure, and it is remaining on "Stopped" mode. But I just don't get why the darned icon in the systray (which is labeled "EncorePro MSSQL server") does not go away permanently now that I have removed the EncorePro program and drivers via my Control Panel.

Well, I meant to go into the Startup and right-click on the programs that are in there (like SQL-related and Service Manager) and drag (move) them to the desktop. That way they shouldn't be in there and auto-starting when XP starts. By going into the Administrative Tools/Services in the Control Panel, you can also control whether those programs auto-start of will be manually started.plr66 wrote:Okay, Den, I just figured out that your first post meant to R-click on the Start/Programs/Startup icon to move it to Desktop. Also, have you rebooted your computer during all this?

Boy I sure don't seem to be communicating computer-stuff very well today! Den, I gotcha. I meant to say that I figured out what you re-stated here. Just reluctant to move that to Desktop. I did check the Administrative Tools/Services in the Control Panel, and all were already set to "manual."Wulfman wrote:Well, I meant to go into the Startup and right-click on the programs that are in there (like SQL-related and Service Manager) and drag (move) them to the desktop. So why won't the icon go away in the systray?

Re: How to Remove EncorePro?
The icon is thew server manager, you have to right click on it and exit it. but you also need to go into the startmenu in windows and remove it from startup. Also you probably have many places trying to restart it and other removed programs. Lots of pieces are left behind after add/remove gets done. I use Tuneup Utilities 2009, to clean out my reg files, it also provides a nice way to control programs that load at startup. You would be supprised at how that trash can slow down your computer. Jim
