HC150 Heated Humidifier cleaning trick!

Post by sagesteve » Fri Apr 10, 2009 9:25 am

I came up with a little non-cleaning tip here for the HC150...the in-line bacteria filter! https://www.cpap.com/productpage/In-lin ... bipap.html
The anti-bacterial in the filter is enough to also keep your humidifier from growing anything! I have the filter at the outlet of my M and then the hose running to the inlet of the HC. I haven't cleaned it sense I got it and it's perfectly sterile. I just keep re-filling it with DISTILLED water. Just a tip.

I did one better, I only use distilled water and have not cleaned my HC150 in over two years ... still squeaky clean like the day I got it.

Or you can drain it. then fill it with BB's and vigorously shake it to smash the little devils!

If you are one to be concerned with such, might be easier to get a small bottle of Control 3 and disinfect it monthly. I bought a 2 oz bottle for $3 which dilutes to 1/8th oz per pint which would be enough to do the job monthly for over a year.

OldLincoln...I'm a big proponent of ControlIII here on the board...BUT, when you start to use it in a heated environment and IF you don't really rinse it, could be a problem upon breathing it! If you rinse it REALLY well I would agree...I also thought of that but I want to do as little moving of the pod as possible. I use ControllIII on everything...on HELL of a toilet cleaner and disinfectant! You can save a ton here: http://www.activeforever.com/p-4106-con ... rce=Nextag already mixed up and I just pour it into a spray bottle...use it on a lot of stuff! Thanks for the input

My RT gave me an in-line filter to try - I had to take it out because of the way I felt. I think it reduces the pressure at the mask and therefore the therapy.

Couple that with a longer hose and more volume and I think that will really have an impact on your therapy.

TIP: The premixed stuff is 9X more expensive than mixing your own.
