CPAP obscures outside noise

Post by araminta » Fri Apr 03, 2009 1:30 pm

Last nite as I settled into ramp mode, I realized that the there was some kind of noise outside the house.

Typically, I woulda known immediately what was causing the rattle: whether it was raccoons looking for goodies, the neighborhood cats going at it, etc. But now my "leaf blower" makes it impossible for me to hear all the sounds of the night. Then I started to think about it, and realized that if someone was trying to break into the house, and I was alone, I wouldn't have the quick response I'd usually have. And that seemed unsettling.

Just wonder if others have had this feeling of being more vulnerable -- while enjoying the relief that CPAP brings to sleep.

How loud is it? My first reaction is that something is wrong.

I have a loud A-Flex but it is still low enough that I use a white noise machine to keep from hearing the train go through town two miles away.
