How Tight??

Post by Sleepy Boy » Fri Apr 03, 2009 10:52 am

How tight should my Quattro be? I think I've had it too loose. It leaks a little whenever I turn from side to side. They say not to overtighten it, so I tried not to. My AHI is 7.5 Will it help my #'s to tighten it some? My pressure is set at 13. Thanks, Larry..

I don't know about many other masks, but both the UMFF and Quattro seem to have the "just right" spot regarding tension. I tend to wear (and like) mine pretty loose, too.....but I kind of use my pillow to keep it in place. I like the top straps very loose and any tension needed is on the bottom straps. I also have the forehead support in the full, upright position.....no angle. Bed pillows can make a huge difference in how masks need to be adjusted and how they will work. I know I can't use a regular bed pillow.....makes the mask leak like crazy.

wulfman, what is a Chiroflow pillow?
Here's their link. It's a water-based pillow. You adjust the amount of water in it to get your head, neck and back in alignment. I had been using one for a number of years before starting therapy. Last year, I tried switching back to a regular pillow (experimenting)......it only lasted a night or two before giving up because of all the leaks I was getting with my mask.

It's been discussed a number of times over the years here. If you do a search, you'll find a number of links to posts.

Thanks Den: I did loosen the top straps & bottom straps a little. I unhooked the hose and put the mask on, held my fingers over the holes a blew out a little to see if it would leak. That just might be the way to check a mask for leaks before hooking the hose on and starting the machine..Thanks for the help. Larry..
